I to have reached the ambivalent state. I've watched perhaps 18 innings this year on TV. Logged on here a few times and I'd bet I haven't posted more than a handful of times since the season began.maoling wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 2:46 pmLooks like I picked the perfect season to quit sniffing Mariners' glue. Never done this before in 42 seasons, but I quit watching and caring in late April. It's been a profoundly liberating experience.
A quick check of our current record has us at 30-44, but that record is deceiving because of our fake news hot start. The cold reality is that the M's are 17-42 and playing at .288 winning pct. since then. After factoring in the 13-2 fake news, Coug math tells me we will finish at 55-107 which will be good enough for the Mariners worst 162-game season in history. This should earn Dipoto an additional raise and extension, according to Mariners' corporate logic.
Ultimately, after September call-ups, I think they will probably finish even worse. My final prediction is 52-110.
Do you think they have what it takes to be our worst team ever?
I wish the Mariners would see what the Seattle Seawolves have done in their two years of existence. Two seasons, two championships! In other words, success. I wish that MLB would begin a type of promotion/demotion that the English Premier League does. Perform poorly and your team is relegated to the second tier (AAA) do well in AAA and you are promoted to the Majors. This system rewards success and those teams that are stuck in less than mediocrity are banished until they improve.
Speaking of soccer, anyone watching the U.S. women's World Cup team currently destroying the other teams in their grouping? 16 goais for, zero goals against! It is like watching a world class heart surgeon at work.

Re: Predict Our Final Record
We have 31 wins. Let's say we just go 4-3 vs. the Royals and O's. We would then have 35 wins with 80 games left. So yeah call me crazy, I think we will do better than 20-60 in the second half of the season.Scratchiro wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 12:32 amI'm temtped to take you up on that especially since I expect Leake and possibly Gordon to get traded.

It's been a great WC so far and I've caught most of the matches; it's on all the time here.
Some things that make the Women's WC more enjoyable than the Men's WC:
The women play a more technically sound game. They play soccer the way soccer is taught and the way the game is supposed to be played. Far less one-on-one heroics. The women build their attacks and win or lose as a team. They are better sports in general, win or lose.
Unlike the men, there is far less fake injury hysterics, pleading, whining and diving when the women play.
The talent level of the top teams is off the charts this WC.
Finally, they are women and some of them are hotties.

Soccer like golf and tennis and very unlike basketball and base/softball is a sport that looks very close to the same regardless of which sex is playing.
I have no problem with them scoring thirteen goals but the celebrations after scoring goals from about #7 or #8 on were ridiculous. Even more ridiculous were the opinions that they were only being criticized for it because they are women.

Re: Predict Our Final Record
the issue is Dipoto Dipoto dismantling the team, does he hold a fire sale now? If he trades, Leake, Gonzales, Gordon, Haniger or whoever, yea they could possibly go 20-60 the rest of the seasonD-train wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 4:03 amWe have 31 wins. Yep, anything is possible but I am willing to be the contrarian and bet they don't have one of the worst second halves in the history of baseball.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 3:42 pmthe issue is Dipoto Dipoto dismantling the team, does he hold a fire sale now? Gordon is blocking Beckham and Long and is expensive.
Leake wants to play for a contender and returns us a future bullpen piece.
However, imo, the bullpen has proven to be key to their implosion strategy. They have better relievers on the IL and scattered in the minors.
I think the 13-2 start maybe excited the front office a little, but it also threw a big wrench in their strategy. They're back on track now, thanks to the vacated bullpen.
