So we hate when SS doesn't baby Kelenic and puts him in leadoff, then we hate when he does baby a starter by pulling him after 4 innings and about 70 pitches? Pick a side. I get that its maybe a bit inconsistent between the 2 and its not and apples to apples comparison, but do you want him to throw these players into the fire, or ease them in?

This is the same approach that he took with Marco Gonzales. In his first 5 starts, he only went 5 innings once, and didn't reach 70 pitches until his 5th start.

And now, years later he's on the DL. That has to be some sort of evidence against.

What I am saying is the issue is managing innings. If you want to contend managing innings is stupid fine. But I think that position runs contrary to how every team is run these days including the two that made it to the WS, one with the smallest payroll and one of the largest. They can use a five man rotation, a six man or whatever man. Whatever they decide to use they are going to manage innings. It's the way it's done now

My God I am saying that SS thinking that saving Gilbert for September is f-ing ludicrous. We will likely be 15 games out. How are Sept games more of a learning opp than May games???? Going another inning vs. the 1st place As when we are only a few games out is less challenging and high leverage than going against the O's in Sept when we are 15-20 out of the playoffs???? Why?????? Just answer the question. Why??? It makes no fucking sense.

Really? its 4 years. The track record for players and injuries reaches 100 % the more time they play. His injury this year has absolutely nothing to do with 4 years ago. It was about easing him in to the Majors and not asking him to do too much too early.

Well Gilbert isn't coming off TJ surgery so a bit of a difference there.

Actually I missed a few games. He had 2 games he pitched over 76 pitches in the first 10 starts, but only 1 game where he made it out of the 5th inning the first 10 starts of his career. He eased him in and didn't make him go the third time through the lineup very often. Even starting 2018 he would only go 5 innings for the first month of the season.

Thats a fine opinion to have, I don't have a strong opinion one way or another. You have to pick a side though. I think some have been upset about starting Kelenic at the leadoff and then pulling Gilbert out early (in a game when he didn't have his best stuff and struggled to get through 4 innings).
