To be successful a pitcher needs total conviction in a pitch to really execute it with authority, interesting SS addressing thatPhishphan91 wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 2:02 amI'll have to go through this thread to see if anyone mentioned this, but speaking of stupid, did anyone catch when goldsmith quoted servais yesterday in game? apparently servais said since gilbert is a rookie he wants him to call the game to make sure there is conviction in the pitches he throws. when he gets more established he should listen to the catchers game plan. to me, common sense says it should be the exact opposite.

Well, they were pretty consistent month to month in 2001, so i wouldn't say they coasted after the first couple months. All games matter.ddraig wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 2:46 amThis way of thinking, that May games don't mean as much, should be run by Lou. I seem to remember the M's crushed the other teams in the AL West in April and May and then coasted to winning the AL West for the rest of the season. Seems those games in April and May were the deciding factor as Lou's team put the rest of the division in their rear view mirror and never were challenged for the rest of the season. Proving the point that the early games were far more important than those in September.

Yeah its pretty simple. If you don't win in May then Sept. games are meaningless. Put yourself in position to have to make the tough decision as to whether or not to shut the young pitchers down or go for the playoffs. Why give up in May????ddraig wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 2:46 amThis way of thinking, that May games don't mean as much, should be run by Lou. Its that the manager of a MLB baseball team in 2021 thinks that May games are less Important than Aug and Sept games. Would love to see the analytics or science that makes him think that.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 4:49 pm
Isn't that what they did trying to manage Kikuchi's innings in 2019? I'm fine easing him in to the starting role. I would have liked to see another inning last night, but he didn't have his best stuff, and still managed to come out relatively unscathed. Let him come out ahead for the game, and give him another chance next week.

Making the playoffs isn't good enough. Personally i don't get excited at the prospect of scraping in as the 7th best team and taking an early exit because you don't stand a chance against the quality organizations. You need ace pitchers in the post-season and this team doesn't have any, so by all means they should handle the guys that may become aces in such a way as to set them up for the most success farther down the line.

There have been hundreds of Aces in baseball history. If Gilbert becomes one, he will be the first Ace that was handled like a sickly little girl during his first few starts.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 2:17 pmMaking the playoffs isn't good enough. He threw 78 pitches in those 4 innings. If they pulled him after 50 or less it would be a different matter.

Randy Johnson threw 93 pitches in his major league debut and went 9 innings with 130 pitches in his 2nd game. Too bad they broke him.

Dude, Its been 20 years I'll take what I can get. scraping in as the 7th team is something you can build on. Plus its baseball. Anything can happen if you get a shot. They beat Bieber the other day while rolling out a bunch of bullpen arms.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 2:17 pmMaking the playoffs isn't good enough. Sorry, i'd rather have a team that is fun to watch over the six month stretch of a regular season (because they can kick ass) than something that's been thrown together with late trades and after pushing rookies to their limits with the hope that they will get lucky and roll over three or four superior opponents in the play-offs. Fuck that crap.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 4:13 pmDude, Its been 20 years I'll take what I can get. scraping in as the 7th team is something you can build on. Plus its baseball.
