Latest from the Key renovation
Re: Latest from the Key renovation
Finally, a name!!! Well, the name of the atrium of the New Arena at Seattle Center: https://twitter.com/AlaskaAir/status/12 ... 8940285952
As for the actual name of the team, Geoffy boy now says it should be revealed in March: https://twitter.com/SeaTimesSports/stat ... 5465003008
Surprise surprise but yet another delay. Has the name "Delays" been mentioned before? I believe I've heard "Glacier" as well since everything here moves a glacier speed.

Looking forward to hearing the name. Maybe it's hard for me to be objective, but based on name only I think that Mariners, Seahawks, and Supersonics are all great names. I think Sounders is more on the weak side.
I don't think you guys need to worry about getting the Sonics back. The new Key will make Seattle an arena ready NBA location. That should make it fairly simple to win an expansion bid. Seattle has suffered long enough. Stern is dead. The NBA made their point.

be surprising to me that by the time the NBA gets around to naming another two new franchises that Seattle isn't one of them, and I would bet they play in the new arena, really do not see the hard part in it.

I guess the new team will be called the Sockeyes and coached by a woman.

Becky Hammon will be named Coach of the Year for her work with the Seattle Sockeyes
Two things have to happen here, obviously: Hammon has to get a head coaching job, and Seattle has to get a team. The timing might not line up perfectly—I wouldn’t be surprised if Hammon got a job in the next few years (pro basketball is definitely the most progressive of the major US sports, and Hammon clearly has earned loads of respect NBA-wide), while expansion doesn’t seem to be high on anyone’s list of priorities.

"I predict the NBA will expand by two franchises during the 2020s. One franchise will be the Seattle SuperSonics and it will play in the Western Conference. The other will be a Louisville team that plays in the Eastern Conference.
The case for Seattle is obvious. The city already has a diehard fanbase from the previous Sonics franchise. Seattle is also the nation’s 13 largest media market and nine wealthiest city. Louisville is a more debatable pick. It is a smaller market than other potential candidates, including Las Vegas. Yet basketball is in the region’s DNA and an NBA franchise would be the only major pro team in town."

It seems beyond obvious which makes me think it isn't.DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 9:30 pm"I predict the NBA will expand by two franchises during the 2020s. that has been my thought ever since the near miss on the Kings, that Stern would just use us as the ultimate bargaining chip.Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 2:59 pmThat is messed up if true.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 2:54 amthis is six months old, maybe it was posted already, posing the question, why is the NBA so slow in granting an expansion franchise to Seattle? Proffers that its more valuable being used as a threatened relocation target for cities slow to build new arenas for their own franchises

Not really about the Key reno but still tied to the project regardless: https://twitter.com/ChrisDaniels5/statu ... 0736624640
I echo Richard Peterson's tweet. Aren't they supposed to unveil the name sometime in March?

Just had an exchange with a lunatic on twitter saying that OVG has NEVER missed a deadline. Must be the carpet baggers son or something.

Yep, they were on track for that and then the LEAGUE decided 2021 would be their mandate and NHL Seattle adjusted all the timelines accordingly, including adding more content to the arena (on their dime) to make it an even better world-class arena.
Anything else?
