Pointless discussing trading Castillo?

I think the issue is he has a no trade clause, how do you factor that into a trade scenario? There seemed to be plenty of gossip during the season that they were interested in trading him. I thought it had gotten to the point where they approached him.

Ha! The no trade clause has expired
And while Castillo isn't anything approaching a must-trade player, he is the guy Bleacher Report named as the Mariners' most likely to be traded this offseason

But lets not talk about it

Jerry has said he wants to keep the band together. He is going to piss on all the Naylor good will by doing another salary dump when it is totally unnecessary.

I'll bet Castillo gets traded, but not for a $100. For some reason that's a vice I've avoided. And I'm certainly not giving it 50-50 odds. I believe the keeping the band together was specific to resigning Naylor, what constitutes the band? The entire roster?.

Here's what he said about trading Castillo the previous off season, my guess is the likelihood has increased
Throughout the winter, the Mariners fielded multiple trade offers for veteran right-hander Luis Castillo that Jerry Dipoto said were worthy of consideration.

“We had more than a few deals that made you scratch your head and say, ‘Hey, what do you think, guys?’” Dipoto, the club’s president of baseball operations, said in a conference call Monday afternoon.
Seems to me he's about as interesting a piece they have to discuss this off season..

Divish
Castillo’s contract originally included a no-trade clause that constrained Seattle’s flexibility and reportedly had real influence when his name surfaced in hypothetical or exploratory talks. With that clause now expired, the difference is massive. Instead of needing his permission or tip-toeing around preferred destinations, the Mariners can treat Castillo like any other asset: gauge the league, identify desperate teams, and see who’s willing to pay for track record and brand-name upside.

A simple review of the Locked On Mariners plan would answer that question but someone would need rudimentary internet skills to access the entire offseason plan.

One would think that whoever started this thread would have taken the time to break down the plan so others didn't have to.

I haven't taken 15 seconds to review this thread since I read the initial post. Why is this thread titled "Who had the best plan from the mariners podsters" and the initial post doesn't even link the video?

Regardless, if Jerry is telling the truth and the deals offered for Castillo made them scratch their heads... then the return is way better than what LO Mariners proposed.

Maybe if the M's trade for Skubal, they send Castillo back to Detroit in the deal and eat a little bit of the money alongside sending prospects. The Tigers still figure on competing even if they trade Skubal and they'll need a starter or 2 to complete their rotation. Castillo would be a welcome addition to a team like this IMO.
