Morales took a huge step forward this year. Maybe those that liked him despite his ERA the first few years. Maybe those that ranked him knew something beyond his stats.

I've got a question that I'm sure has been asked and answered before: How come young guys come along and are studs on the NFL or NBA immediately, at all positions, while in baseball, almost everyone has to progress through the various levels of the minors before you can count on him to do well in the majors?

Well the obvious reason is because a lot of prospects are drafted right out of HS. But the less obvious is that the difference between college and Pros is much greater in baseball that Football and basketball. Especially the pitching.

Gilbert, Kirby, Miller, Woo all went to college (4 years each?) and then spent time in the minors. So do you think it takes pitchers longer to develop than skill players in other sports?

The might have been fine going straight from college to MLB but as I am sure you have read they all have developed additional pitches which are needed to get big league hitters out. The other reason they don't go straight to the big leagues is because they don't have to like in the other sports which don't have minor leagues.

Colt was 2-4 today. Hitting .550 with a 1.400 OPS. Cole Young hasn't played since game 1. Must be hurt.
