No, I actually think Cal might prefer the 4-hole.
so they are batting the face of the franchise 2nd against his wishes, honestly you have lost me
I don't know that it is against his wishes.

I don't think he gets much of a say to be honest. But that is how the game has changed. More analytics, less player mentality. I'm also not sure Cal has earned any say on where he hits in the lineup. It's not like he's been doing this the past 5 years with the bat.

Bonds certainly cared.
Griffey definitely cared. He wanted to he 3rd because he consider himself more of a hitter than a HR hitter.

And he backed it up.

Far and away his best OPS at 3 than another other position in the lineup by about 100 points.

I wish they would try a random lineup at least once every seadon. Let someone draw names out of a hat. The team would probably score 10+ runs that game...
Has anyone done the analysis about how many more runs the M's would have scored on Cal's 50 HR, had he been hitting #3 behind Julio versus in front of him? Just seems like the proof would be in that statistic. I'm not saying I know the answer of if it can even calculated, it just seems like especially the first time through the order, you're sacrificing a lot of 2 run HR for 1 run HR, but maybe I'm totally off base.
