He's just a leadoff hitter that occupies an appropriate position and there aren't many better options available at 2B or 3B, and we need to fill one or the other at least.
Given the lack of available 3B, our best option there would probably be Ty France imo. Outside of Ty France, Moore/Shenton makes the most sense at 3B.
So Arraez is kind of the belle of the ball of what's available.
Based on Jerry's words, name the M's 1B, 2B, 3B next year.

Profar would be a good signing imo. He can play all over the diamond including 3b as a former ss. Not sure why we aren't linked to him. Ms should check in. His market seems pretty weak for whatever reasonD-train wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2024 5:41 pmSo Bliss Rivas and Moore put up 2.9 WAR in ~600 PAs and Young finished the season as an on base machine with pretty good Slug. I think we are good at 2B and shouldn't trade Castillo for a 100-120 OPS+ bat.
3rd base is the black hole. There is literally nobody other than Bregman who might as well cost a trillion dollars.

yep but no way the sign him to this "MASSIVE" deal.
Despite his strong season, Profar should be cautious about assuming he'll land a massive deal in free agency. Bleacher Report suggests he signs a three-year, $39 million deal. to remain in San Diego. While he had an impressive year, it's important to remember that this doesn't define his entire career.Nov 11, 2024

I don't really care about players that are all glove, no bat. Brendan Ryan was a better SS than most guys ever thought of being too. So what. He sucked.Bil522 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 3:09 pmRojas is better at 3b than France ever thought of beingbpj wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2024 10:06 pmArraez is nothing special.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2024 1:46 pmHere's a topical fangraphs article titled, The Myth of Luis Arreaz. But Dylan Moore's better than either anyways.

He's played 11 seasons and amassed 8.4 WAR, half of it was last year, sounds riskier than Polanco.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 6:00 pmDo we want him?D-train wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 4:56 pmyep but no way the sign him to this "MASSIVE" deal.

Profar just proved himself in a tough park to hit in. Maybe we can strike gold for a year on him also.
The 3B market is so weak that Ty France actually looks like an option for a team like Pittsburgh.

Even with his defense he was in the way of a better bat.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 1:03 amMy issue is the defense, ichiro wàs a light hitter but he also had a heck of a glove. I've seen Arraez referred to as the worst second baseman in baseball. I don't know enough about him to have an opinion but it concerns me. I'd rather go with a heavy hitter with questionable defense than a light hitter. And for $14 mil, makes me nervous.
You guys are acting like Arraez is a weak bat, but he has the 3rd highest OPS among qualified 2B since 2022.
That's why I don't care- at all- about his defense. Defense shmefense.
I don't mean to toot my own horn, but tooty toot toot. I think he's the perfect leadoff hitter for this team. And like you, I don't give a rats **** about defense. We have had so little offense in the last four years (really 20)

Wondering if his bat actually played better in Minnesota. How well would his bat play at TMobile
Even in 2024 he played 2B until he got traded to the Padres where they already had Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts, Jake Cronenworth, and Ha-Seong Kim in the infield but wanted his bat in their lineup and were weak at 1B.
And in 2023 he played all but 12 games at 2B.
We have plenty of guys that can be late inning defensive replacements. Let's worry about getting the lead first.
