Assistant of the (Quarter) Year

Post by Donn Beach » Sun Oct 05, 2025 12:40 pm

Anthony Campanile, defensive coordinator, Jacksonville Jaguars
Michael Clay, special teams coordinator, Philadelphia Eagles
Klint Kubiak, offensive coordinator, Seattle Seahawks
Kubiak is piloting the league’s No. 6 dropback EPA offense but, like Campinale, truly stands out when comparing his unit’s current success rate to what we saw a year ago. Mike Macdonald made the unorthodox move to push away his first-year offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, in favor of Kubiak, who, in fairness, had a similarly explosive start as the coordinator of the Saints in 2024. Darnold is third in quarterback success rate among every-down starters and sixth in EPA. However, that is only a small part of the equation, as Seattle’s offense has begun to match the defense’s layered complexities, making already talented stars such as Jaxon Smith-Njigba elite, game-altering prospects.

Not ready to give it to him but if we win today and score 24+ points I will give the Assistant of the (5/17) year award.

Tells me who ever wrote this believes the bullshit we saw in the 9er game and the second half of the Cardinals game was simply Kubiak doing what he was told.

And this cracks me up….the quarters season coach of the year? Nothing to write about I guess. Not to mention, if this was a National guy ripping on the Hawks, Donn would ask is if it’s a case of bias. He wouldn’t TELL us that, because that would mean he had to take a stance.

It's a senior SI football writer and I am going to guess he is familiar with all their games. It pisses you off that he might be impressed with the seahawks season so far? Maybe your narrative has become more important to you than the seahawks actually being successful.

yeah, i think i would settle for less than 24 points. Tampa Bay is going to be an interesting test. It be one thing for the Mariners and Seahawks to both make the playoffs the same season, how about both winning their divisions? Now that would be something.

Interesting terms of the run game, they are fourth in the league for runs of at least 15 yards or more. They are also first in the league in attempts that gain zero or negative yards. That's what's killing them, just getting stuffed too often.

Shut the fuck up Donn. I have made my stance very clear. Kubiak is a yes man, and the conservative offense cost us the Niner game and damn near the Cards game. If you have gotten that impression from me than you are one of two things. Incredibly ignorant, or you are doing this shit on purpose, which makes you a troll.

What's better. To average 4.5 and have the least stuff and least big runs or to do what we have done. Guessing the former.

But we both want them to be successful don't we? As Seahawk fans what would be great is for MM and Kubiak to turn out to be the greatest combination of coaches ever, lead us to a SB, we can agree on that? So far I am pretty impressed actually, I mean i was dubious about MM when JS first hired him but I am coming around. That's the thing, there at the end of the PC era, the Seahawks had fallen a rung below the Rams and 49ers, terms of the entire organization, talent, coaching, FO. Going into this second season post PC I feel a different tone, a revitalization. It may not be immediate but I think the seahawks are getting positioned to compete with them, to take the division. I really feel that way and I don't think I am just being a blind homer about it. I think they really could be on to something. We shall see, I think they are getting the coaching in place, the team is young, they are positioned well terms of the salary cap. They have a relative cheap effective qb. I honestly feel both MM and JS know what they are doing, sorry for the optimism.

I guess i was thinking in terms of fixing it. It indicated particular issues at the LOS, they needed to be more effective at springing the runner but once they did they had success

“Coach Mike Macdonald said that by the Seahawks’ in-house metrics, Mayfield is probably the best quarterback in the NFL right now in terms of extended-play situations. That’s something you have to deal with, but he also plays on time,” Macdonald said. “He’s extremely accurate, he’s got a great arm, and then when he extends plays, obviously he’s a great competitor.” Mayfield has the eighth-fastest average time before throw at 2.68 seconds.”
everything i learn about the Tampa Bay they sound tough, I hadn't really understood that about them. A top defense, as well as their offense, Mayfield is tough. We no longer have a home field advantage. I am trying to be optimistic but its hard
