In two years he's taken CP's successful program and run it right into the ground. Good players have bailed on the team, his recruiting has been shit, his assistant coaching hires have been shit, his in-game coaching against non-Air Raid teams has been shit, and with the nation's #1 high-school QB gifted to him he's instead starting a scrub. And oh, his team has scored an unfathomable 17 points in two games, seven of them against an AAA team, which is virtually impossible to do.

He's not going to get any better. Who immediately reduces a program to the worst in the conference and then just as quickly turns it into a contender? Zero people, ever.

But even if the team wins two or three games this season, Lake is guaranteed another year, for no real reason.

If Lake thinks this is just another loss to deal with, he's fooling himself.

A 34-32 stunner to Appalachian State from tiny Boone, North Carolina, to open the 2007 season effectively transformed the Big Ten team from staunch powerhouse to perennial also-ran status.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Jackson Sirmon said Washington would stop the run.

Seriously, he did. He wasn’t smiling when he said it. But he’s far from the only Husky who hasn’t kept his word.

On Wednesday, Sirmon — a 6-foot-3, 235-pound inside linebacker — sat at a table with a microphone inside the Husky Stadium tunnel, with a bandage wrapped around his right elbow.

“We’re going to stop the run,” he said, when asked for Washington’s defensive focus on the road at Michigan. “They want to run the ball, and we’re going to stop the run. We’re excited to do that.”


Likewise, Michigan was excited to rush for 343 yards and four touchdowns on 6.4 yards per carry in a 31-10 win on Saturday night. Following a converted fake punt early in the second quarter, Blake Corum was excited to bound untouched up the gut for a 67-yard score — raising a celebratory peace sign as trailing safety Kamren Fabiculanan rapidly faded. The Wolverines were excited to open the second half with eight consecutive runs in a soul-stomping 73-yard touchdown march.

Corum was excited to rush for a career-best 171 yards, 8.1 yards per carry and three touchdowns, while Hassan Haskins added 155 yards and a touchdown (just the third time since 1940 that two Michigan running backs exceeded 150 rushing yards in the same game).

In his first press conference after being named UW’s defensive coordinator, Bob Gregory said way back on April 9 that “we’re not going to win a lot of games if we give up 200 yards rushing.”

I remember exactly were I was at the end of that game in 2007. Driving from Kirkland to Camas to visit my wife's brother and family stopped in the Federal Way Red Robin and watched the end of the game in the bar. Couldn't believe it.

I think there was more to Michigan's decline than one game against a top FCS opponent. And were they really a staunch powerhouse prior to that? More like Ohio St had some down years while they had some up years, kind of like Washington and USC in the 80's and early 90's.

Michigan's downfall had a lot to do with the change at Ohio State, I totally agree. Penn State and Wisconsin made good hires during that time too.

That is the biggest dissapointment here. Lake was handed a team that made it to two New Year's Day games in four years, including one Final Four, and two years later this is what we have. The worst run defense we have seen since Willingham and the worst QB play we have seen since Ronnie Fouch. Oh yeah, Willingham. Sorry ddraig, I know we aren't supposed to say his name, but pretty soon it will be Jimmy mistake by the Lake that we can't utter. He makes me long for Gilberston! Shit, he makes Jim Lambright look like Bear fucking Bryant! He is a joke, and the worst kind...one that thinks it's not his fault.

At the very least Donovan should be sent packing. I've seen more imaginative offenses in Grid Kids. Don't even get me started on the 4th down calls. If you claim you have the players on both sides of the ball and the schemes don't work it doesn't take rocket science to change the schemes. Dylan might be the kid you would love to have marry your daughter but what I perceive to be his lack of arm strength allows the defense to defend a much smaller field plus have an extra count to close on most throws. I'd rather take my chances with Sam throwing ropes and learning to make decisions under fire.
