Yes. In conversations about the post season and winning a world series, the names Canzone and Ohtani are frequently linked.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:43 pmGood God.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:42 pmDrayer was on the radio today saying that they love Canzone and that he's likely to be starting... ffs.

4 years ago today:
1. Evan White had just signed his long term deal
2. JK was #7 overall prospect
3. Marco had just gone 16-13 with a 3.99 ERA and 3 WAR
Who would have predicted the 3 of the would have been traded for nothing just four years later.

Both are male, play baseball and have distinctly ethnic last names.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:45 pmYes. Scouting grades: Fastball: 70 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 50 | Overall: 45
Phillips was rushing up Draft boards in the spring of 2022 as reports flowed in of the Texas prep right-hander hitting triple digits with his fastball. He seemed like he had a shot at being a first-round pick until the train was derailed temporarily by Tommy John surgery in April. He had been scouted regularly prior to the injury and the Braves felt comfortable enough to take him as their third straight high school arm in the 2022 Draft, signing him for $1.5 million as their second-round pick. He never threw an official pitch for the Braves, who sent him and fellow right-hander Jackson Kowar to the Mariners in the December trade that sent Jarred Kelenic, Evan White and Marco Gonzales to Atlanta.
The hope is that Phillips will get back to the improved stuff he showed before the elbow injury. His fastball can sit in the mid-90s, reach the upper 90s and touch 100 mph with good running action. His breaking ball, a power curve with depth thrown up to 85 mph, could be a plus pitch. Like many prep hurlers with that kind of fastball-breaking ball combination, he didn’t use his changeup much, but he has shown feel for a mid-80s offering with fade.
Compared by some to big leaguer Nathan Eovaldi, a Texas high schooler who blew out his elbow as a junior, Phillips’ improved strength has led to a repeatable delivery and more strikes. He’ll get his first true professional test in his new organization in 2024.

We could probably convince 50 y.o Ichiro to come pitch for usSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:24 pmSort of amazing that he could be that bad... he throws 98 with sink and has a decent slider/change...D-train wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:18 pmHe had a worse 2008 than McCain and the Housing market. 38 ER's in 30 innings as a rookie. A position player might have better luck throwing lob balls 75 mph.

He's also not shy to reshuffle the deck. He dumped winker and toro last season. He might be arrogant but he doesn't lack confidenceD-train wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 5:13 pmI have little respect for Jerry but he does always do what he says he is going to do and he said they are now ready to add. Might be underwhelming but there is NFW they are standing pat.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 5:09 pmWell, this is hard to quantify. How do you define "more talented options"? More talented than what? Kelenic and Teoscar?Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 4:52 pm
Do I want the guys we have gotten rid of to be in the lineup or rotation next year? Not really, but do I believe we will add more talented options? Not at all.
Right now we have Canzone and Hags on the 40 man roster as outfielders with Clase and DeLoach and Taylor Trammell waiting in the wings. If this is the outfield we are going with, then I think we are in serious shit next season. We need to plug those holes with some proven talent - either in FA or by trade.
So if they stand pat,m then I don't think we upgraded - we regressed. Time will tell if they go after some big league talent which will indicate they took a crack at a real upgrade.
