Ty Frances OPS+
2020 133
2021 128
2022 125
2023 101
2024 96 at the time they cut him

At no time in his stint with the M's was France worse than Naylor is right now with his 92 OPS+. We get 4 more years of this. Oh Joy!
Lol... so the Mariners should have kept France who put up 101 OPS+, 92 OPS+ (his actual, total OPS+ in '24), 89 OPS+ in '25 and followed it up by giving up a contract?

Buddy... there's a reason he's on a $1.35M 1-year deal with the Padres.

He was dogshit for 3 seasons and a 1-tool player.
He got sporadic playing time and bounced between teams. Once he was allowed to get back into a rhythm he has been fine. He is also a Gold Glover and currently rating the best defensive first baseman in baseball.
WHY DO YOU THINK HE GOT SPORADIC PLAYING TIME?

Do you think the rest of MLB was just fooled? He won a GG last year with Minnesota and the league thought so little of him that he signed a 1-year $1.35M deal.

I mean sometimes I don't even know what I'm doing here on this forum.

And those numbers dropped while he was playing in hitters' parks in Cincinnati, Minnesota and Toronto. He played in 190 out of 217 games so that wasn't an issue. He would have been a disaster in Seattle the last couple seasons, even worse than Naylor. Those are not players you pursue as we've learned all too well the last few seasons. That he's doing well this season is a shock more than anything.

He got sporadic playing time because of the particular needs of the teams he was on at the time. He was a filler piece in Cincinnati while they were transitioning to a younger lineup. Minnesota was just a giant mess and decided to blow things up and rebuild and obviously he wasn't going to start over Vlad in Toronto.

Yes they were fooled and his current stats bear that out.

Somehow you think a season and half of struggles is more indicative of who a player is than the other 7 seasons of success. Obviously this is a matter of opinion and I am not even concerned with the particular player. Even if France was sucking this year its a philosophical Issue. The problem is they pulled the plug on a player who even in his struggles was only slightly below league average as a hitter and they did so without an answer waiting in the wings. Then they decide to go out and commit long term to a player who statistically equivalent to the guy they pulled the plug on. It is a classic sell low buy high blunder and the roster construction is going to be screwed for several years because of it.

He hasn't been the statistical equivalent to Naylor for years. You can't just spout that nonsense.

From '23-'25 Naylor was the FAR superior player.

The fact that you don't get that is astounding.

And this is what I have to deal with on Twitter... it should be punishable with jail time to be this stupid.

I pose a "give me what you think Kirby is worth" question on X... and this retard says "Emilio Pagan and Spencer Steer."

God I hate people.

What was happening in Cincy and Minnesota had zero effect on his performance. As for Toronto, he played in 30 out of 37 games. Where his defense is concerned, in Seattle it was abysmal and only improved after he left. That's not something you can predict, and you don't gamble on guys going into their 30s who are on a downward arc. What he's doing this season is an outlier, not a standard thing. Again, we know that from experience.

If there was going to be any kind of argument about who we should have signed to play first base instead of Naylor, it should be about Murakami.

At the time they cut france his numbers were absolutely comparable to Naylors numbers at the time they signed him.
The M's cut France in 2024. In the 3 seasons prior (21-23) he put up 8.0 WAR
The M's signed Naylor in 2026 in the 3 seasons prior(23-25) he put up 6.8 WAR

I somehow have over 700 followers. LOL I think the coolest part about it is being able to two dudes like Mike Damone and Ryan Ripken and get a LOL from the Cable Guy. That's the only possible place that could ever happen.
