"NEW YORK (AP) — DJ LeMahieu and Kyle Higashioka made savvy baserunning moves, turning a double-play grounder into the go-ahead run, and the New York Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 5-4 Saturday for their fifth straight win.

Aaron Judge and Rougned Odor homered and the Yankees capitalized on a three-base error by right fielder Mitch Haniger to win for the 10th time in 12 games.

New York erased a 4-1 deficit by scoring four times in the sixth inning. The Yankees have won the first three in a four-game series against Seattle in a matchup of teams in the playoff chase.

Odor hit a two-run drive inside the right field foul pole to pull the Yankees within 4-3 in the sixth.

With one out, pinch-hitter Gleyber Torres hit a fly and Haniger raced back, appeared to overrun it and then slipped, allowing the ball to get to the warning track.

Higashioka delivered a tying, pinch-hit double with one out and took third on LeMahieu’s single off Casey Sadler (0-2)."

The article was merciful.

This is how I know most Mariner fans are dumb casuals:

Imagine thinking that the Padres would trade Tatis Jr. Then imagine that it even enters your mind that trading Kirby for Tatis Jr. would be a risk for... THE MARINERS!?

Arkins points out the obvious that the rotation was just meh. "Richly deserved" AS appearance for KK. lol He only made it because the mandatory minimum of one player per team.

The entire lineup this year had 11.5 fWAR They are losing Seager and you think they are going to put up 17.5 without any additions? That seems pretty optimistic. Ditto on the Rotation. they put up 7.3 WAR. You are losing Anderson who gave you 0.7 and adding 4 from Gausman which means you need to get 3.4 extra WAR spread out among the other 4 rotation spots to meet your projection of 14. Your projections would require just about everything to go right. No regression from anyone and most guys improving.
Yes, but they had negative WAR players like Long and Marmolejos. They also had Sheffield and McCaughan making starts. I don't see Marco only having 0.6 WAR, and I see Gilbert having more innings this time around to accumulate a higher WAR. I also don't see Kelenic having negative WAR, given his Sept.

I'll revisit this when the initial Fangraphs projections come out for the FAs, FWIW.

Check out the comment in the Arkins piece I just posted. His formal solution to bolster the Rotation is trading for Kyle Kendricks who is 31 yo and had a 4.77 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP this season.

Also saw a guy on twitter suggest that we pick up KKs four year extension because there is probably a GM dumb enough that we can trade him to and get a good return.

Yeah my failing with my WAR projection was primarily not accounting for all the crazy negative WAR from guys like JK, White and Long.

Both comments are just terrified of spending money on talent. It's really a novel concept for most of these people.

As for Hendricks, he had a terrible 2nd half when they traded away all their talent. He has a good track record. But I think the M's need to spend on some power arms. There's a bevy of pitchers who can throw 89-93, the M's don't need any more.
