Not sure he’s good enough as a lefty to face major league hitters. Also don’t think he’s pitching much lefty anyways. Pitched only righty today

He's too good a right handed starter to be moved to the bp. I think everybody is making too much of the switch pitching. His ability to pitch with his left arm is way behind his right I don't believe letting him try it is hampering his development as a right handed starter. He's a right handed starter, that's what he is

Alonso, who is far more productive in his career, was offered $154M/7 before he took the larger 2-year deal.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 10:11 pmLOL the prediction is he will get $100M. I think that is high but no way in hell he only gets that.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 6:02 amI would re-sign Naylor... 2 years $34M.
I would sign the kid from Japan. Have him play 3B and then move him to 1B when Emerson is ready in a couple years.
Naylor has never produced more than 2.3 bWAR in his career and has a career 7.2 bWAR. Alonso has produced 22.7 bWAR and the best he was offered on a long-term deal was $22M a year.
Perhaps Naylor gets a longer contract, like 4 years, but I do not see it surpassing $17M a year.

1 year of age difference between him and Alonso when they were free agents isn't going to amount to Naylor getting some $25M a year deal or whatever given the difference in production.
Like I said, I see $17M a year, no longer than 4 years offered.

Re: 2025 Prospects Thread
Maybe he is maybe he isn't. Most guys trend towards average as they get closer to the major leagues and with Switchy, we just don't know that much about him. But if he does start to really thrive in the minors next year, and the big league rotation is healthy and doing well, maybe you just bring him to the majors in a bullpen role for that season. You can always move him back to the rotation later.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 4:54 amHe's too good a right handed starter to be moved to the bp. I don't think Naylor will get anything like $17 million per year. If he does, it won't be from the Mariners.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 4:44 pmI do take that into account.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 4:39 pmYea, think you have to take into account he's only 28Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 4:31 pm

If he gets longer term I could see like $65M/4.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 5:30 pmI don't think Naylor will get anything like $17 million per year. If he does, it won't be from the Mariners.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 4:44 pmI do take that into account.

But ya, Naylor ain't getting anything near $100M.
Re: 2025 Prospects Thread
I think the Mariners and other teams would be smart to have more of an open mind towards developing athletes at 1B, as opposed to what most teams do which is to put guys there that can't play any other position, but have some potential with the bat. The result of that approach is that aside from Bryce Eldridge and Jac Caglianone, there are almost no high ceiling prospects at that position. And this filters through to the majors. Look at all the shitty, fringe players hanging on to major league careers at 1B.
And then if you're a team like the Mariners, and you need a 1B, you're in a position where you have to overpay for a player like Naylor, who is decent, but not someone that a team should invest scarce resources in.
