I wonder how capable Cole Young would be sliding over to SS permanently and trying to take on the headache known as Ketel Marte. Colt could slide to 3rd, Cole SS and Ketel at 2nd. Then we just need to get 1 OF of Suzuki, Green etc. You'd have to imagine they would be happy to trade him at this point.
Young doesn't have the arm nor range to play SS.

Bottom 2% in arm strength in MLB. Bottom 9% in range in MLB. He also throws like a new-born deer walks. Palms the ball and pushes it.

He'd likely be a disaster at SS.

His sub .700 ops is ranked 14th in the majors for second base. If he managed to climb to .730 it put him top ten. He put up over 4bwar. At some point seems to me we should consider a position filled and move on to the next one. What is it we are holding out for?

I'm not so sure turning double plays will always be a challenge for him. He's a converted SS. That aspect is the most difficult to get comfortable with, that twisting action. It's supposed to take time. He's considered a good defender. The double play could still be a work in progress
Turning a double play still a work in progress for a first round pick his second year in the big leagues. Holy fuck and we are fine with this? bWAR massively inflates and overvalues Defense. He is a 2 WAR player. 15th out of 20 qualified 2Bs. Note his negative D metrics. A team full of average players will be an average player. I am holding out for good players that can lead us to a WS. Call me crazy.

well first I do not see anywhere where he's bad at the double play, he's considered to be a pretty good second baseman actually. But he is in fact a converted SS so there should still be room to improve. So with his second season in the majors after attaining league average status at a new position, that is being better than half the other second basemen in the majors its time to give up on him, okay. Yeah, its a team of average or less than average players. Thats my point, with the 21st pick in the draft it seems like even though he isn't All Star material they came up with a decent 2nd baseman. I myself think theirs bigger fish to fry than looking for a replacement for Young.

kinda an interesting look at his metrics in terms of his GG rating from Tremayne Person

You're right that there are bigger fish to fry. But 2B is a key position defensively and while Cole Young isn't terrible there, they should be open to upgrades like Otto Lopez. I maintain that 5 years of Cole Young for 3 years of Otto Lopez is something the Marlins would have to seriously consider. Three years takes you through Cal Raleigh and Josh Naylor's age 32 seasons, Julio's age 28 season, and Canzone's age 31 season.

And to clarify how I see Lopez fitting in to the roster, I see him as a true shortstop that can play 2B, 3B, and SS and would be an upgrade both offensively and defensively to any player we had playing those positions this year. Colt Emerson may not be ready for opening day in the majors and as I've said in other posts, he shouldn't be counted on to play in the majors next year. He was called up too soon because the front office are assholes and don't know how to evaluate position players.

This team needs an infusion of real infielders. Even if you believe offense is more important, you can't be the worst defense in the league and expect to get anywhere.

15th of 20 isn't league average and I don't see any upside...

Jesus who is giving up on him. Just saying great farm systems produce stars and he will never be one. He is fine as the 7-8th best player in the lineup of a WS team but need to find at least a couple stars and right now we have ZERO.
