I think George Springer is needed. He is a clutch player when playing and could help them as a RH bat vs.Lefties.
Would be just like us to pull a guy with one foot in retirement and put him in our lineup...

https://heavy.com/sports/mlb/toronto-bl ... eculation/

Dude is freakin 37 yo, 2 years older than Refsnyder and Pollack were and put up 0.6 WAR and a 99 OPS+

BUT HE IS RIGHT HANDED!!!! LOL
Sure, but if you noticed that while he did have a horrendous 1st half(still better than anything the M's had on the bench), in the 2nd half of the season he had a 120 OPS+ and this was not as hitter against lefties. Plus, he has actually hit in T-Mobile throughout his career at a 102+ clip in over 270+ PA's. On top of that, he has 384 postseason plate appearances in which he has been successful; don't you think it would be handy to have a player of that ilk helping the feeble-minded M's lineup? We all know Springer is a prick, but he is a winning prick, and aren't players like that better if they are your prick than the other team's prick?
Not concerned about his prickyness. Concerned about his ancientness. 37 is the new 47 vs. 10 years ago when guys played until they were 40...

In my opinion, they need to bring in at least 2 defensively capable middle infielders that have the ability to play 2B, 3B, and SS. They should be planning as if Colt Emerson spends the entire season in AAA, which is where he should have been playing this year. I fucking knew those assholes would call him up too early.

But yeah, go get two solid major league quality middle infielders. Leo Rivas and Ryan Bliss should not be a serious part of the conversation in spring training. Maybe this means Brendan Donovan gets pushed out. That's fine. You can trade him. He isn't as valuable as he was when you acquired him, but teams will still be interested in that skillset.
Totally agree regarding Colt. That is why the contract was so asinine. Again totally fucked themselves trying to be "Clever" to save a little bit of money in 7 years IF he becomes a very good player.

I wonder how capable Cole Young would be sliding over to SS permanently and trying to take on the headache known as Ketel Marte. Colt could slide to 3rd, Cole SS and Ketel at 2nd. Then we just need to get 1 OF of Suzuki, Green etc. You'd have to imagine they would be happy to trade him at this point.
Used to be Balefire UK, now I'm optimistic!

Well other than Young being considered to have a below average arm, and me thinking the very last thing you'd want to do is add a cancer to this under achieving clubhouse not a bad idea

They will never trade for Ketel Marte.

I'm really not a believer in Cole Young. He had a good year and I appreciate his contact hitting skills, but his OPS was still sub-.700 and turning double plays will always be a challenge with him at second base. He's a good fielder though.

His sub .700 ops is ranked 14th in the majors for second base. If he managed to climb to .730 it put him top ten. He put up over 4bwar. At some point seems to me we should consider a position filled and move on to the next one. What is it we are holding out for?

I'm not so sure turning double plays will always be a challenge for him. He's a converted SS. That aspect is the most difficult to get comfortable with, that twisting action. It's supposed to take time. He's considered a good defender. The double play could still be a work in progress

Totally agree. Just an uninspiring player with the most bizarre throwing motion I have ever seen. Kid will NEVER be AS caliber imo. Average player is his ceiling imo...Laz is the only guy that brings excitement and he has a potentially fatal flaw of that in zone whiff rate. Colt was horrible and Arroyo is 21 yo with almost no defensive value....Kade we thought was going to be special but his stuff was meh vs. big league hitters. Farmelo and Felnin haven't hit AA pitching at all yet. I guess there is Sloan and maybe Ace Reese.

Come to think of it after this past season with Cal and Julio slumping and the entire home grown pitching staff regressing who is a great home grown player on the MLB roster from that supposed great farm system we have been hearing about this entire decade????

Turning a double play still a work in progress for a first round pick his second year in the big leagues. Holy fuck and we are fine with this? bWAR massively inflates and overvalues Defense. He is a 2 WAR player. 15th out of 20 qualified 2Bs. Note his negative D metrics. A team full of average players will be an average player. I am holding out for good players that can lead us to a WS. Call me crazy.

well first I do not see anywhere where he's bad at the double play, he's considered to be a pretty good second baseman actually. But he is in fact a converted SS so there should still be room to improve. So with his second season in the majors after attaining league average status at a new position, that is being better than half the other second basemen in the majors its time to give up on him, okay. Yeah, its a team of average or less than average players. Thats my point, with the 21st pick in the draft it seems like even though he isn't All Star material they came up with a decent 2nd baseman. I myself think theirs bigger fish to fry than looking for a replacement for Young.

kinda an interesting look at his metrics in terms of his GG rating from Tremayne Person
