Seriously? Sorry but that doesn't make sense to me. They paid a lot for him, it's why they don't have draft picks. It fits their model, trade for players you're interested in and extending them. Hes been productive and wants to continue to play for them. If they aren't interested in keeping him now that makes the trade a failure in my mind. The difference now is Kubiak being gone but I'll be surprised if that really changes the situation to the extent that they are happy to let him walk
For a 4th and 5th rounder?
Sincerely doubt they're going to pay the money necessary to keep him.
He had 18 receptions in 12 games with the Hawks. He averaged 22 reception yards a game. He had 0 receiving TD's.
That is absolutely horrific production. Jakobi Meyers, who I wanted, who went for a 4th and 6th rounder to JAX, had 43 receptions with the Jags for about 60 yards a game and 3 TD's.
Glad the Hawks won the Super Bowl, but Shaheed was a failure acquisition.
Was a failure? You realize he went to the Pro Bowl. The obvious thing about Shaheed is is explosiveness, he's got that in spades and it has value. It's really what makes Walker valuable as well. Yeah, he didn't have a lot of catches but I'm not sure that means he wasn't affecting games. They got him for a reason, which was to open up the offense and the offense did I believe benefit. Look how the run game improved. I think he was used with a lot decoy situations where teams were forced to respect his speed. Here Kupp talks about it, taking the top off a defense.
.I think you saw early on there, we had a play to Jax where, you know, that safety backside from Rashid, he knows there's a post alert, anytime that Rashid's on the field, there's a chance that you could be taking the top off. I think you're going to see that it's a dangerous thing
I think they were happy with the trade, that being said, what's his value going forward. Seems to me they didn't do him any favors not throwing him the ball very much. Barnwell has him for one year at $15 MIL. Maybe he's cooled on the idea of sticking around with how he was utilized. Maybe kubiak takes him to Vegas. But if JS let's him walk for that kind of money I'd be scratching my head
Yeah, he went to the Pro Bowl as a special teamer. Almost all of his production as a receiver came with the Saints. He would be cut averaging 22 yards as a wideout per game like he did with the Hawks.
You know who was a stud special teamer this year? Carson Bruener for the Steelers. Yet, he doesn't start at linebacker. You think the Steelers are about to hand a bunch of $$ to Bruener because he tackles well as a gunner on ST's?
The Hawks didn't acquire Shaheed thinking he'd do next to nothing as a wideout. Being a good wideout is clearly where he'd be most valuable... and they're not going to pay him the $$ he's going to want b/c he returned a couple of kicks nicely.
For $15M? Yeah, he can go to Las Vegas if he's going to avg 22 yards a game. Perhaps they didn't throw him the ball much b/c he struggled to get open.
