Totally fine with managing innings just don't do it in the most idiotic way you can possibly think of.
Isn't that what they did trying to manage Kikuchi's innings in 2019? I'm fine easing him in to the starting role. I would have liked to see another inning last night, but he didn't have his best stuff, and still managed to come out relatively unscathed. Let him come out ahead for the game, and give him another chance next week.
Its actually not even the innings or pitcher workload thing this time that blows my mind. Its that the manager of a MLB baseball team in 2021 thinks that May games are less Important than Aug and Sept games. Would love to see the analytics or science that makes him think that.

I don't know how liberal it is, guess you could call it progressive perhaps. I think what it is, the Mariners are employing 21st century strategy, they suck, so it must be because they don't go about things like a team from the 50s. The deal is, I think if you look at who was in last year's WS they use some pretty liberal approaches themselves. And I'm including the dodgers. I haven't followed them closely. But I know in the past they have been intent on limiting innings.

What I think you guys are prone to do is attempt to fold the Mariners failings into your general view of the world. You want everything to go back to some sort of Leave it to Beaver fantasy from your youth. The Mariners inability to adapt to modem baseball strategy fits the model. But think how condficted things would be if you lived in Tampa lol ..
One difference between genius and stupidity is that there is no limit to stupidity...Bounty envisions himself as "a progressive" endorsing "21 century strategy". He doesn't watch the Dodgers, " but he thinks they limit innings... He's a progressive.... you know, the people who get their moral code from Don Lemon, Johnny Depp, and Governor Cuomo, the people who told us twenty years ago that Florida would be underwater if Republicans controlled the government, the people who have virtually run every city they control into bankruptcy, decay, and homelessness. Stupid?

I'm not endorsing it Terry, I'm accepting it. I know you feel it's stupid to grasp that things change. That is probably the difference between us

“I really wanted him to come out on a positive note,” Servais said. “We have such a long ways to go in this season. And for Logan, I don’t really care what anybody else says. We’re going to be very cautious because I really want him to be standing out there pitching in August and September. That’s how you learn as a young player. It’s not chasing something here in the end of May. He wanted to go back out there but he’ll get that opportunity. It may come next time out, I’m not sure. But we just want to keep him moving in the right direction.”
Thinks that games in May when we still have at least a small chance at the playoffs are less important than games in Aug and Sept. when the season is basically over and we are just playing out the string.
I'm not denying that SS is an idiot, but I read this quote and interpret it as addressing what is good for Logan Gilbert in his development. They (i.e., I'm sure JD has a hand in this, as do others) want Gilbert pitching all year so he can progress. I don't see anything here (in the quote I mean) about some games being more important than others.

And now, years later he's on the DL. That has to be some sort of evidence against.
Really? its 4 years. The track record for players and injuries reaches 100 % the more time they play. His injury this year has absolutely nothing to do with 4 years ago. It was about easing him in to the Majors and not asking him to do too much too early.
If it's not about limiting future injuries, and it's about "easing them in to MLB", it's even dumber.
Maybe, but I think that's what they are doing

I think more innings later in the season when Gilbert is acclimated and more confident are probably better for him developmentally than games early in the season. Fewer innings early so he can battle and go deeper into games once he's adjusted to the MLB. Look at it that way rather than about wins or losses.

And again, you have to remember, this decision likely doesn't come from SS, but from JD.

I don't have DNA proof that Scott Servais is an idiot... but you've demonstrated your "idiotic qualifications" enough to remove speculation. There's still doubt about me. That is probably the difference between us.

I'll have to go through this thread to see if anyone mentioned this, but speaking of stupid, did anyone catch when goldsmith quoted servais yesterday in game? apparently servais said since gilbert is a rookie he wants him to call the game to make sure there is conviction in the pitches he throws. when he gets more established he should listen to the catchers game plan. to me, common sense says it should be the exact opposite.

This way of thinking, that May games don't mean as much, should be run by Lou. I seem to remember the M's crushed the other teams in the AL West in April and May and then coasted to winning the AL West for the rest of the season. Seems those games in April and May were the deciding factor as Lou's team put the rest of the division in their rear view mirror and never were challenged for the rest of the season. Proving the point that the early games were far more important than those in September.
