Sunday Game thread
Re: Sunday Game thread
They just have to not allow any black holes and they're there. They're an 85 win team as they sit. 90 if they eliminated the bad LF for a good one.
They don't have the Dee Gordon/Mallex Smith/Shed Long black holes any longer.
Our weak links are gold glovers now. Except LF, which is essentially vacant.
Dylan Moore is a + bat at 2B. Why mess with that.

Not until they sign a real SS, 3B and DH when the time comes... Kelenic, Moore, Lewis, White, Gilbert are a year wiser... we're not relying on names like Flexen to start... + we add a couple of real shutdown bullpen arms.
Re: Sunday Game thread
Then we can agree to disagree on it being a playoff team.
This is a good team imo. Young and upcoming, but only one glaring hole.
They got bullpen help.
They added a SP. Flexen is just a bonus upgrade to the back end, Paxton and his upside is what mattered.
They just didn't fill the third hole, LF.
One move short.

Re: Sunday Game thread
So you guys would be opposed to the idea that Paxton, Haniger, and Seager (if willing) be traded mid-season for prospects if they show signs of being their former selves in the first half?

Brother, BPJ, hold up my man. I think you are confused about my statement. Let me help you and clarify for a minute.bpj wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 6:36 amStop acting like adding a LF would be going all in then. You're acting like a ninny. It's not just namecalling
OH MY GAWD, HE WANTS TO ADD A LF ON A 1 YEAR DEAL!
All in? Get real.
They don't need to go all in to contend, we've established that.
They just need a LF so it's not a wasted attempt where they miss the Wild Card by 2 games, very predictably.
I wasn't suggesting that by acquiring a LF that the M's would "going all-in". I think if you acquire a LF what that does are multiple things. It prevents you from looking at the younger prospects that need at bats at the major league level to see how and if they can perform at the highest level. Also, i think you waste capital that could be saved up for when the Mariners do decide to go all-in and make a "real" push when the window of contention opens. If you think that any player is gonna come here just to be traded halfway through the season, good luck, especially if they don't have ties here.
And its not like anybody wanted to trade for a player such as Rosario anyways. The dude was put on waivers and nobody claimed him for god sake. If you're gonna acquire a player on a short term deal to flip at the deadline for ANYTHING, then it has to be pitching, especially front line starters, ala Taijuan Walker or James Paxton. Every team is looking for good pitching on short contracts come the trade deadline.
So what i was getting at is, if you're gonna acquire a LF, then you might as well grab all youre other pieces that you need as well at the same time, and this organization simply just isn't there yet. So save you're money and you're ab's for when the time really does come. I'm not interested in making the playoffs just to make the playoffs. The same fools that unloaded Canó's albatross contracts for Kelenic. Give me a break! I think the organization knows a little more about deciding which prospects are deemed more ready than any of us in this forum. Your entitled to youre opinion, but Dipoto and the FO fools, give me a fucking break!!!!bpj wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 7:22 amThey're fools for counting on anything from Kelenic in 2021. Holding the spot open for him by way of not trying to improve at the MLB level should get Dipoto fired when they miss the playoffs by 2 games and Kelenic has a .730 OPS in Tacoma with a 35% K rate.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 7:18 amSome players transcend the norm.bpj wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 7:12 amCounting on the kid who has, what, 20 games above A ball, in a year where the Wild Card is within reach is sheer stupidity.
Signing an OF was as much Lewis and Haniger insurance as it was just filling LF. There are 3 question marks in our OF, and room at DH.
Them going after a 2B was a fools errand.
Kelenic isn't a project like some guys... they wouldn't be thinking about playing him if they didn't think he was ready to perform like a Tatis Jr... everyone and their mom says he's a superstar.

Re: Sunday Game thread
Lol, yeah, ignore Montgomery for Vogelbach in midst of playoff run, Chris Taylor, Aoki, Miley, Yovani Gallardo, Dee, Cishek, Benoit, Zipchin, Leonys Martin, Dae Ho Lee, Ben Gamel, Nate Karns, Steve Clevenger, Tony Zych, Juan Nicasio, Danny Valencia, Mallex, Evan White, Yusei Kikuchi, Denard Span, Cameron Maybin, Ryon Healy, Jarrod Dyson, et al and lean on Dipotos one move that hasn't proven to be a bust.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 12:11 pmThe same fools that unloaded Canó's albatross contracts for Kelenic. Way to find something- anything- to lean on though.
The idea that you must push all in to make any moves and field a competitive team is stupid. Pathtic. Cuck.
Call it what you want. Losers strategy.
They had holes at SP, RP and LF.
They filled 2 of 3 and now are on pace to barely miss being decent.
A guy like Rosario or Pederson was exactly what this team needed. A stopgap, not an Answer.

Signed- A dopey little redheaded bitch.
Is that better than ninny? Just as accurate.

As I've said before, anybody that has to resort to "name calling, just admitted that they've not only lost the debate but can't handle a mature conversation, especially when it comes to a measly topic such as baseball. You've totally lost my respect sir. Good luck with your life.

You have no debate, as usual. There's zero downside to adding a competent OF to our roster, no matter how much of a cuck you want to be about it.
We need insurance for Lewis/Haniger making it through a season as much as LF.
Instead, just let them roll over us in 2021 like your wife's boyfriend crawling over you out of bed in the morning. No big deal.
Weak.

Good read starting about page 15. For the most part..bpj wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 2:38 amExactly.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 8:22 pmFirst off, thats racist!!! Just kidding. As far as the AA kids, all of them would have had a chance to get some time at MLB to see what they have, and "go through their lumps" so to speak. With just 60 games and no minors, that pushed all that back a year. Guys like Kirby and Raleigh would have been knocking at the door of Seattle by now. Kelenic and Gilbert would have been in Seattle by July, and had a chance to adjust to the MLB. Thats not to mention all the guys who would have had a full season in the minors, and possibly worked their way up to the MLB by the end of 2021 like Julio.bpj wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 7:39 pm
Would love to know exactly what got pushed back for the MLB team, given we're not relying on the AA kids.
A couple injuries? Other teams that have a shot at the Wild Card don't act defeated like the Mariners do, they continue to improve their team to improve their chances.
The Mariners are just a horribly run organization, so at least it makes sense. If any team ever needed Theo Epstein, it's the Mariners.
As cutting edge as they are, going with some unproven woman who probably never played above little league at this point would just be more inept management by the Mariners.
They need a baseball mind at the top if they want to win, not a businessman. Or woman.
So other teams would have just filled their holes for a year with FA's that were plentiful instead of sitting on their thumbs.
All the AAA guys would still get injury callups or force their way up.
But none of this put it off another year until we try nonsense because, Muh Prospex.
They added RP. They added a SP, finally. Now they're 1 player short of 90 wins when plenty of LF were easily had. Always 1 move short in the name of giving the youngsters a chance, before they've even earned it.
