If it is to be believed that psychology is playing a role in Toro's level of play, based on the assumption that he is now happier, why is it discounted with regard to the performance of players that were clearly unhappy following the trade?
I don't know. I'm not the one saying that it doesn't matter. It probably did hurt a couple of these pansies feelers that their pal was traded so they had a couple bad days.

More likely, we lost a few tough games against some good, contending teams.

The Mariners have created themselves a progressive clubhouse, so you get what you wish for.

Mariners players know they'll get away with throwing a hissyfit so they throw one. Kind of like a child when they overreact. If you don't check them they'll think that's how to get their way.

It wasn't about losing a friend as much as it was about feeling like the trade made the team less competitive now. Even Jerry said the following day that as a standalone deal it didn't improve the team but that it would make sense after he made some additional trades. And ex-players like John Smoltz seemed to agree that the Mariner players had a right to be upset at the time.

The players seemed angry, felt a lack of support? Okay. I don't see the connection to them then losing games, that's what I'm missing.

Isn't Kyle Seager the player who was reportedly most openly pissed off about the Graveman thing?

It seems like he had one of the best offensive stretches in his whole career right afterward. So, he takes his anger out on the baseball. Good.

Let the hate flow through you, Mariners!

Seager still seemed angry on Sunday:

I think it's been mainly the bullpen that has been off since then. Seager had home runs in 3 of the first 4 games after the trade but has an OPS of .676 in August.

Imagine having one of the worst offenses in baseball, giving a worthless toothpick bat like Bauers regular ABs and having a guy in AAA that is hitting .377 with 20 HRs in 58 games and just sticking with the status quo.

I don’t buy it for the team or Toro, he hit 297 in June and poor July then turned it up for August. He is a decent play who we should expect to be in 280-290 range hopefully. Good players don’t think about that shit when they step on field. There is a little substance obviously being everyday and getting into routine and experience over time that certainly factors into a player’s success.

My guess is we don’t see Marmo till rosters expand. Then again if I remember correctly he was taken off 40 man last time when sent down which means he has to prove himself in ST, no way he gets they DFA again. I am sure they are reminded of roster crunch at end of WS when everyone has to come off 60 day IL
