Lol I guess that'd be considered hit and run, right?D-train wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2019 3:23 amWell neither of those are contact plays so you never agree with it.Hasslecracked wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2019 3:22 amI only agree with it when theres 2 outs or just a runner on 1st. 6-19 since the 13-2 start. I'd wager that has never been done in the history of baseball.

I don't see a huge difference in 1/3 with 1 or 2 outs and 2/3 with 1 or 2 outs. Any grounder to the middle of the infield is going to be a much tougher play.
Heres the thing though. HIT THE BALL IN THE AIR!!! If your supposed best player (Haniger) can't get the job done and hit a sac fly, then quit blaming it on the coaches. Either way its the same number of runners on with the same number of outs. At some point the hitters need to get the job done. There are positives and negatives to the contact play, and most coaches will run the contact play. You can disagree with that, but that doesn't make it a stupid coaching decision. Its pretty close to a 50/50 call. The problem is, in both cases the hitters failed. JUST HIT IT IN THE AIR AND SCORE A RUN.

And what, 8 of those losses at the hands of bullpen decisions we all freaked out over as they were happening and ended up being correct?
The clown has got to go.

Dunces was an apt thread title tonight. I'd give the top Dunce award to the home plate ump. He really hurt the M's a couple times calling strikes on the corner balls.
Swarzak gets honorable mention in the Dancing With the Dunces show. He throws hittable heat, not enough movement. He is 3-6 in save opportunities. His 3 blown saves trails only Pittsburgh's Kela who is 0-4.
Nothing wrong with Marco's pitching to night. The rain thwarted his fine performance. HR by Encarnación was beautiful, 2 doubles by Bruce in a 3-4 game raised him that much closer to Mendoza and tradeability.
Game should have been called but MLB wants the games to be completed when possible.

I agree about hitting the ball in the air obviously but its irrelevant if the contact play is on or not in that case. Only time you score with a contact play when you wouldn't have otherwise is if the fielder bobbles the ball. What % of the time does that happen? Far more chance of having it hit right at someone and getting thrown out at home.

The question about Swarzak is why is he in there to begin with?rockycola wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2019 3:59 amDunces was an apt thread title tonight. I'd give the top Dunce award to the home plate ump. He really hurt the M's a couple times calling strikes on the corner balls.

He led off the inning with a can of corn pop out to left and freaked out like a 10-year-old on the mound thinking he had given up a homerun. What kind of a major league pitcher reacts that way to contact?
Why is Servais still trotting him out there?
Why does nobody ask this damn question? I don't get it.
