Cruz's OPS is almost 200 points higher this year than last and is the highest of his career at age 38. Only needs 8 more HRs for 400.
Cruz is one of those interesting cases where you wonder if he lied about his age to get into MLB earlier. Like if he was a big 15 year old kid they said was 17 to get him signed..

He's at the age where things were done a bit differently in the international markets in his day. Also, he's a physical specimen, so that could be all it is!

I miss him here, just a great man, ballplayer and personality. But time marches on as does the Jerry turnstile. Things are looking up in the future of the Seattle Mariners but Cruz will always be a great Mariner chapter for me.

I agree completely, the M’s best contract in my memory, great competitor, great attitude, and Always Hustled!

I too miss him, the Guts of the Team.

Irreplaceable.

You are so obtuse. I can't believe you missed that this was in Seattle, he has to be getting called up!

Notice the dump truck is completely inside the Subway. The driver must have had a really bad Meatball sub or something.

In other news, Gilbert is kinda good. He's going to work his way into the rotation by the end of next year. They only had him go 5 innings yesterday. My hope is they are saving his innings so he can pitch in AFL this year

Gilbert won pitcher of the week honors in the Texas League this week... Gilbert, drafted just last season by the Mariners in the first round, 14th overall out of Stetson University. With Arkansas this season he has a 4-2 record and a 2.50 ERA in 7 starts. Total between three affiliates (West Virginia, Modesto, Arkansas) in the Mariners system, his ERA is 1.95 with a 10-5 record in 24 starts. In 124.2 innings Gilbert has notched 154 strikeouts while walking just 30. He also earned a California League Pitcher of the Week Award in May.
