Or you can pick up Seagers option and still sign a other IF bat and rotate around Toro, Crawford and France. 162 games is a long season. Keeping guys fresh for the stretch run could be an asset. The Mariners dont have much of a commitment next year salary wise. Theres no reason you cant add a bat AND keep Seager. Seager is still under contract, you dont have to compete with other teams for his services next year like you would a free agent. I do like someone's suggestion of extending him 2 years 26 million though. Hope he would take that. My guess is 2 year 30 million for a extension is closer to what he would agree to.bpj wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 2:11 amWe have 5 guys that can play 3B. (France, Toro, Moore, Padlo, Torrens)
The sole purpose of the offseason should be adding the best bat(s) they can. They're in a unique position that it doesn't really matter what position they play, it will be the same supporting cast.
Replacing Seagers production at 3B would be expensive. Moving an im-house option to 3B and adding the bat somewhere else could save many millions.
They can sign a 3B and it's still Toro, Crawford and France around them.
They can sign a 2B and it's still Toro, Crawford and France around them.
They can sign a 1B and it's still Toro, Crawford and France around them.
They could even sign a SS and it would probably still be Toro, Crawford and France around them.
What defensive position they play seems pretty irrelevant. Get the best bat. Seager is one of the best available at 3B. He's nowhere near the top of the list when you include 1B's, 2B's and SS's, which they should.

Re: Seager Option
It's likely the M's pick up Seager's option.... he's a decent defender who's developed a home run swing... he is not the heart of this offense.. he's a guess hitter who has sold out "dominating the zone" for home runs.... he is a fucking slug on the bases and often a rally killer. He isn't akpak76 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 29, 2021 7:51 amOr you can pick up Seagers option and still sign a other IF bat and rotate around Toro, Crawford and France. 162 games is a long season. Toro 6 for his last 61. No wonder people are warming to the idea of bringing Seager back.

Re: Seager Option
ItN appears that Toro and Dylan Moore are about equal in value.... Dylan provides more speed on the basepaths, and a better defense.... Toro is a switch hitter who does cut down on his swing with two strikes but he has a suspect arm and glove. The best upgrade we can make is a good defensive second baseman with a great bat. The Yankees are making the case for focusing on the good bat. They have the third worst defense in the AL and still have an inside track to a playoff spot. Personally, I prefer the Giants and the Cardinals models..... a couple of clutch veterans surrounded by B+ players with no weak links....Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Wed Sep 29, 2021 10:44 amToro 6 for his last 61. Re: Seager Option
So if Toro projects as a utility infielder along the lines of a Dylan Moore, was that trade really worthwhile?
Re: Seager Option
Yes. Astros got 2 month of a very pedestrian performance out of Graveman. Even if only a UT, five years of that is worth FAR more.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Wed Sep 29, 2021 2:38 pmSo if Toro projects as a utility infielder along the lines of a Dylan Moore, was that trade really worthwhile?

Oh and then there is this little tidbit.

Re: Seager Option
I've never been convinced that Toro is a good option at 3B and if you move France to 3B, that makes an obvious opening for White to come back and inherit 1B. Anybody good with that besides Dipoto and Servais and both of the coaches' moms and White's mom? Keep Seager until he falls off the table. Put him fifth in the lineup and then perhaps move him up to fourth after the AS break. I like the lineup with Crawford leading off, France the number two, Haniger at 3, and perhaps Lewis at 4. Seager slots in at five followed by Toro, Kelenic, Murphy/Raleigh, and then either Fraley or Moore.
But since Servais is in love with the L-R-L-R lineups, there is no way he'd do the obvious.

Re: Seager Option
Seager is at .204/.679 in Sept.
He has all the RBIs because he is at .307/1.023 with RISP
He is at at horrific .156/.592 with the bases empty
Completely unsustainable. Bid him adieu and trade for JRam or sign Bryant.

Re: Seager Option
Optimist! I like the idea but we're talking about the M's here. Our promise to be very active in free agency is to likely bring in the scrapings of the sides and bottom of the dumpster. Four or five guys nobody else wants and maybe, maybe one B+ player.
