Nothing else is acceptable imo.
Something has to be done about the catcher position. While I do like Tom Murphy's handling defensively of the pitchers, his bat was a black hole in the lineup. Combined with Cal Raleigh getting introduced to the majors, i wouldn't mind if we went out and made a trade for a more offensive veteran savvy back stop. I have discussed Murphy previously and it while is inability to catch throws from the OF is maddening his OPS since late May once he acclimated after missing an entire season is .717, two points higher than Mariner legend JP Crawford. Sure catching upgrades are possible but far down the list of priorities especially if they can teach Torrens to catch.
James Paxton was a fun wish, but his time is over in Seattle. Totally agree. Fool me once, fool me twice, fool my thrice. FU. I don't care how, but the Mariners need to acquire a top of the rotation ace. Whether its through free agency or trade, there needs to be at least one, if not two at the top of the rotation. Agree but I don't think this will happen. I think he thinks one of the prospects will be an Ace
Is it time to trade Mitch Haniger while his value might never be higher? Probably but he risks pissing of the fan base again. Don't get me wrong, I love Mitch, but the math does not work out in his favor. Kyle Lewis, Jarred Kelenic, Julio Rodriguez, Zach DeLoach, Jake Fraley, Alberto Rodriguez all come to mind. What could Haniger fetch us in return? For one year of him maybe a mid level prospect or two.
Try and re-sign Kendall Graveman! We have plenty of relievers and Graveman was meh for the Astros. What boost in morale that would be after Seager and Haniger both possibly depart the team? I would rather just keep Haniger.
Need an on base machine, ala Ty France, that preferably has speed on the base paths. Bryant, Semien and JRAM are all in the .355-375 range
Do not retain Kikuchi's 4-year option. Agree 100000% If he chooses to activate his 1-year player option, then trade him to Oakland plus prospects in a deal for Matt Olson. Say Kikuchi, Evan White, and Jake Fraley for 1B Matt Olson. The A's would pay MORE for those three than Olson next season. They would hang up the phone and never answer it again.
That's just the beginning of my wishlist

Re: Offseason Plans
Ok, what about E. White, A. Toro, and a mid level prospect for Olson? Then move France to 3B, and sign Semien to a multi-year deal.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 1:30 pmSexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 12:33 pmAssuming Kyle Seager leaves, who takes over third full time? Have you tried https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/ not perfect but a good sanity check. This is what it comes up with for that trade.
I put in Juan Then as a mid level prospect: A's still think they are getting punked if JD makes that offer. Note that White has NEGATIVE value.

Re: Offseason Plans
What I'm getting at is maybe we could package Toro, for a better player in return. Olson only has 2 years remaining on his contract. I doubt Oakland ponies up the cash to re-sign him. I'd love to get his left handed bat in this stadium and onto our roster somehow. It would replace the left handed power numbers and then some lost by Seager.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 1:50 pmHave you tried https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/ not perfect but a good sanity check. Re: Offseason Plans
Yes, others have suggested Olson as well. Would need to move France to 3B but that might work well. Just need to offer more to get him. Here is an example:Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 1:55 pmWhat I'm getting at is maybe we could package Toro, for a better player in return. Olson only has 2 years remaining on his contract. Maybe France's great D at 1st would translate to third. He would obviously be more valuable there. Would still need a 2B though.

Olson at 1b France at Second Kris Bryant at third. And Oakland is not going to want are major league leftovers in a trade for Olson. They will want all prospects.

Re: Offseason Plans
I wouldn't give up any high end prospects for 2 years of Matt Olsen. I'd rather have White get one last shot at glory than that.

Re: Offseason Plans
I know you are joking about White but I still prefer my INF.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 4:54 pmI wouldn't give up any high end prospects for 2 years of Matt Olsen. I'd rather have White get one last shot at glory than that.![]()
The constants are France and JP but in Captain's proposal France would need to move to 2B where he hasn't been good.
Also in terms of 2021 WAR my guys JRAM + Semien = 6.7 + 7.1 = 13.8 vs. 3.3 + 5.8 = 9.1 for Bryant + Olson
Captain's guys are younger though. Combined age of 57.5 vs. 60.0 for my guys.
JRam will cost more than Olson in prospects but Bryant will like require more money than Semien.
I would be happy with either of these thought. Curious what others think????
