I don't know that a rebuilding team has a need for a 28 year old closer. Replace Castillo with a couple of mid tier prospects Then and Phillips for example and that might be more of the package that they would be looking for.

Very true, I just knew it would be welcomed here given the hate for him.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:39 pmI don't know that a rebuilding team has a need for a 28 year old closer. And Jerry made that trade with the enemy while playing them. Jerry can trade anybody. He has no shameDonn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 1:08 amyeah, like the Graveman groupies did when he was traded during the Astros series...

Re: JRam trade
Jarred Kelenic is not getting traded. Need to get that out of your heads.
They've invested so much of their future success on his shoulders. Over a 162-game season he was on pace for 23 bombs and 75 RBI's with just a .615 OPS. If he raises that to a .800+ OPS you're looking at a guy who will hit 35+ homers and drive in 100+ runs. Not out of the realm of possibility given what he showed in Sept/Oct. Not liking him because he was cocky and called out the M's doesn't change his projection. The M's think he's going to be really, really good.
Trades for big-name talent should happen with young players like Marte or Hancock who are 2 or so years away. The Indians trading JRam would also indicate a partial rebuild so younger players with lots of talent who they can get their hands on and mold should be the desired compensation.
Indians fans are convinced they don't need Marte because their farm system is middle-infielder rich. If they trade for Marte that doesn't mean they can't trade some of these guys for other talent. The Indians would be stupid to not consider a talent like Marte because they have other middle infield prospects. You acquire the best collection of talent you can for JRam and worry about the rest later. Truth be told, their middle infielders prospects are weaklings who best project to play 2B. Tyler Freeman has 0 power and will be a 2B. Andres Giminez is a worse JP Crawford. Brayan Rocchio probably has the best ceiling here with a bat, but he also projects to play 2B. Not exactly a riveting bunch.
Not to mention that if Marte were to make the move to 3B he'd be a direct replacement for JRam by 2023. Hell, they could sign someone like Kyle Seager as a 1-year hold over.
My offer for JRam would be Marte, Brash, Fraley + 2 or so super young prospects.
While the situation is a bit different, the Indians traded Lindor for back end top-100 prospect in Giminez, a mediocre SS in Amed Rosario, and 2x nobody 17 year olds who weren't in the Mets top-30 prospects.
That MLB trade values website seriously undervalues trade value of young prospects. The 2x young guys the Indians traded for would have had about 0 value on the website, but it's clear the Indians organization didn't value them as such.

Re: JRam trade
The Indians balked at a Teoscar Hernandez package. N. Marte and E. Hancock wouldn't even get us to the negotiating table for Jose Ramirez. If I'm the Guardiams, I'm asking for Julio or Kirby or both to get things started.
Re: JRam trade
I don't think he will forget the reaction to that trade. He wouldn't have traded for Castillo if it didn't happen.Coeurd’Alene J wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 1:17 amAnd Jerry made that trade with the enemy while playing them. Jerry can trade anybody. JRam is owed $24M which is very low given his value but isn't chump change. Here is the the objective value for the trade you propose. I would suggest looking at what the Mets gave up for Lindor to come up with a more rational proposal.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 10:59 amThe Indians balked at a Teoscar Hernandez package. I'm curious as to T. Herenadez's value for perspective purposes.D-train wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 11:56 amJRam is owed $24M which is very low given his value but isn't chump change. The total investment for boy blunder amounts to a trade of an overpaid steroid abuser. Your Mr Atlas while carrying the city of Seattle on his ample shoulders could hit 35+ home runs anything is possible, He is also on pace for 7+ errors and 200 strikeouts per year. I can’t get that out of my head and this kid is no clubhouse leader either. He is looking more like Forrest Gump than Ken Griffey and it’s becoming more clear that cf isn’t exactly a perfect fit with the routes he takes to fly balls. I don’t expect him to carry this team and if and when he does I will change my online name to Crowmagnonman
