That doesn't seem quite like a "High-return".

It's posturing, they're going to cut payroll. They can also take on Andrus as a salary dump.

"Shooting for the moon" isn't adding on Andrus to Olson's deal so we can get a better exchange rate. Elvis has very little value and will probably remain an A throughout the rest of his contract. Matt Olson won't be coming to Seattle. It sucks, but we can finally put this debate to bed.

Jerry traded away Cano's contract. I'm sure his first trade proposal wasn't accepted. We don't want the AL competitors to get Olson.

New York would have to pay a hefty price to get him out of Oakland. I doubt they're willing to trade Dominguez just as we are Julio.

screw rebuilding
“It’s going to require, probably, spending, and that’s what’s going to happen,’’ Cohen said during Friday’s Zoom call, alongside team president Sandy Alderson.

“I’ve let Billy know, for the right deals and the right free agents, to go get the players we need,’’ Cohen said. “We want to be competitive, we want to win our division and be in the playoffs and get deep into the playoffs. We’ve got to field a team that has the ability to do that. I’ve let Billy and Sandy know, it’s whatever they need and I’m open to their suggestions and recommendations.

Matt Olson is a 2 year window. I don't think too many teams are interested in paying for an upgrade at 1B. NYY, but even NYY is balking at giving out top prospects. Boston could be one, but they like to keep top prospects. The NL leaders seem to be set at 1B.

Heyman is also being more hyperbolic nowadays. Didn't he pan the Mariner's moves during the trade deadline? I suspect the Yankees weren't only talking about Olson, but Olson plus starting pitchers.
