Thats frigging awesome! Its all in good fun. We're all really passionate about the M's in different ways. But at the end of the day, we still want to see them kick ass.bpj wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 7:58 pmI don't want to root against Kelenic, so full disclosure, I took the $100 bet money (which I'll still guarantee of course) and bought 12.6 "shares" of Band Protocol on Coinbase so when it's worth $500 next year I can thank big sexy for the extra gains when I hand him his hundred bucks if Kelenic happens to win

Not sure if you've heard but Jerry told France that 1B is his, and, as you know, Jerry's word is his bond.ice99 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 10:13 pmFreeman is available.

Freeman would be great. What makes the most sense to me is Dipoto told France to prepare like he's going to be the opening day starter at 1B.
That's a little game of semantics, but there's a difference in a baseball clubhouse where there are really only 3 players who are returning starters who are guaranteed a spot at all.
I'd be surprised if Dipoto left himself no wiggle room, but I was also surprised they treated Mallex Smith like a baseball player so I won't act like I'm in tune with Dippy.

Re: Jerry says he has meetings set-up
just to be clear, I don't see it as turning on a promise to France. Like the two of them were drinking beer and Dipoto slapped him on the back and told him he had first base, and now he is like, shit why did i do that. Its based on why he did it, and also discussed it at the winter meetings. He doesn't feel he needs any wiggle room because It turns on his decisions that were reached weeks ago after careful consideration. Dipoto and his staff sat around and drew up a plan for the off season. They concluded that first base was checked. Their focus and resourses would be aimed at other positions, and he has made those positions pretty clear as well. They made that decision with both Freeman and Olson available, nothing has changed. Sure things could change, we shall see. But he has made it pretty clear where the plan is directed, what positions are in play and which ones are not. I be surprised if after deciding first base is settled he goes to trying to out bid the Braves for Freeman, or trading for Olson for that matter, but we shall see

If we land Freeman or Olson, that's worth the loss of 10 pitchers of beer. Either way is a win for me!Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Nov 26, 2021 1:33 amjust to be clear, I don't see it as turning on a promise to France. Re: Jerry says he has meetings set-up
You could look at in terms of what would change the plan, as opposed to Dipoto keeping his word as the issue. So lets say everybody gets taken, his actual targets, Sieman and whoever, his infield targets. So the plan changes, they need to make some kind of move, so then the idea of moving France to another infield position comes into play. Lets wait and see how things play out. I certainly do not see him going after Freeman or Olson with all his actual targets are still in play...
By the way. I been meaning to ask, what happened to Kris Bryant? Is he like the forgotten man? Have heard him mentioned at all it seems like. That to me could be Dipoto's number one target.

It is! And the last thing I wanna think about right now. I'm so stuffed from Thanksgiving, that I'm about to go into a food coma.

I've heard that some Mariners players have been trying to recruit him. I personally do not like Kris for the type of contract he's going to command, and his defense isn't elite from what I've heard. I wouldn't mind him on a 2 year contract with an option, but he's going to want to get paid. He hasn't put up that much WAR as of late.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Nov 26, 2021 1:53 amYou could look at in terms of what would change the plan, as opposed to Dipoto keeping his word as the issue. Re: Jerry says he has meetings set-up
that was the knock against him at the end of the season. The deal with him would be his utility. One would get the feeling Dipoto would go for it, being they have holes both in the infield and outfield. Between France, Toro and Bryant SS would have a lot of options for his lineup
Following his trade to the Giants at the 2021 trade deadline, the four-time all-star would essentially split his third base and outfield work evenly and has continued to play slightly below replacement level defense. The good news is that Bryant’s skill at the plate has more than offset his shortcomings in the field; supplying a 3.3 oWAR in 2021 with both clubs while hitting .265/.353/.481 across 144 games.
