And if he's even close to what he was last year he's a bargain. It's great that we didn't have to spend anywhere close to what the Mets spent on Scherzer. Definitely no excuse to stop one player short of our goal. Bryant and Suzuki next, and then some under-the-radar stuff like our bullpen pickups last year.Vogelbomb wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 8:58 pmit is a head scratcher. The only worry about Ray for me is he doesn't have a huge track record. But he did figure it out. He dominated last year in the AL East. He's been a workhorse. Hopefully we can push him and get another 200+ innings out him in '22 and he leads us in big games.

Against the Jays he has an ERA of 1.77 and a WHIP of 0.885 in three starts. They must not have read the back of his bubble gum card.Case_Of_The_Runs wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 8:59 pmKikuchi for Ray? Jays would be taking a big step down!

I think the rotation is done. They are going to leave room for Brash and Kirby to cut their teeth.
The obvious move right now is Bryant for 3rd/OF.
I would still like to go after Olson which would push France to 3rd. and then get a Suzuki or Conforto for the Outfield.
Nothing would kill my enthusiasm more than signing Story.

And here's an interesting perspective - we aren't likely going to sign Taylor since he would force us to give up our 4th highest draft pick. The pundits think we are avoiding FA with QO's for this reason.

Time to sign Suzuki and trade for Chapman. And maybe Bassitt or better yet, Montas.
And while we're at it, my Xmas shopping list would be complete if they would trade for Stallings!!!

Ixnae on that - Stallgins just went to the Marlins. Fuckballs.

Re: We got Ray
I'm happy with the signing. It seemed like an obvious fit.
To me, Ray has the best stuff of any FA starter not named Scherzer. He throws 95-98 with + breaking pitches. The M's needed a power lefty at the top of the rotation. 95% of the M's top starting pitching prospects are righties.
Aside from a bad 2020 and rookie year, he's actually been pretty good. He was an All Star in 2017 with a 2.89 ERA. He is the MLB career leader in strikeouts per innings pitched. He had 45 walks in 51 innings in 2020, he reduced that % drastically in 2021 with just 52 walks in 193 innings pitched. If he can keep the walks down, he's as pure of an ace as they come.
