Washington State Gas Tax

Post by ddraig » Wed Mar 23, 2022 4:13 am

Our current gas tax is $0.45 and IS a gasoline tax. The State Legislature, in the midst of inflation and limited U.S. oil production, has installed a new tax on top of the 45 cents. $0.48. The total tax on a gallon of gas will soon be $0.93.

But the real kicker is that the Legislature can use the new tax on anything they want because it's worded to get around it being a gas tax. And on top of this, the State is rolling in a cash surplus. So why do we need another tax?

Also I love how voters did away with the car tab fees a few years ago, but then the state ignored it, saying it was unconstitutional and the tab fees remained.

Fuck these people.

Oh, and Nancy Pelosi just made book on an insider trade for Tesla stock. I am so sick of that hag.

I can't find anything indicating that the gas tax is being increased in WA. Do you have a link? Thanks.

I had heard they were trying to slap a tax on natural gas use several weeks ago.

Did you post a comment to a Seattle Times article about highschool students walking out to protest the lifting of mask mandates?

Dennis Prager was talking about the article on his national radio show and then started reading some of the comments. He started out "This one is from Dtrain" lol. He really enjoyed the comment.

I'll search for it. It isn't a "gas" tax because that would require a vote of the people. It's inside another bill. Kinda hard to find since they like to hide things on us. I'll see if I can get it from the broadcast I heard it on.

Broadly, I'm in favor of gas taxes, but I think the revenues should be earmarked for transportation projects.
