the “60 ft. 6 in. Club” award, goes to the pitcher that best embraces the Mariners' “Control the Zone” philosophy of dominating 0-0 and 1-1 counts.

Wow. Of the 249 MiL pitchers who threw 120 innings Ljay Newsome was 7th most in SO's and tied for 2nd least in BB's. Not award worthy?

Yeah, why not make it objective and just use K/Walk rate with a minimum # of inning requirement.

https://www.lookoutlanding.com/2019/9/1 ... gue-awards

"He spent part of 2018 and his offseason in the Mariners Dominican Academy, as the organization sends all their new draftees and signees there at the end of their first season for training, bonding, and planning. Sweet’s task was to develop his slider, which he was able to do to make it a reasonably deceptive offering. That was enough to allow his 90-94 mph fastball work, and his Bugs Bunny change-up wreak havoc."

So, not hanging out together by choice but that explains why many prospects are spending time together around the year.

I think it was objective. They chose a to award the goy that did the best job of getting ahead in the count.

Getting ahead is nice, staying ahead is better
Penn Murphee 136K/31BB 4.39 K/BB
Ljay Newsome 169K/17BB 9.94K/BB

I don't mean to say that he should have won that award. I don't know what 60'6" means as an award. I mean to say this is the epitome of C the Z and he gets no award. This is the Rembrandt who pitches exactly how you preach and then you don't choose to recognize it with hardware. That's silly in my book.

I'm just saying it wasn't subjective. Also, a strikeout isn't the only good thing that happens when you are ahead in the count, and a BB isn't the only bad thing that can happen when you are behind in the count. Maybe thats why they chose that. Some guys are K guys, others are weak contact guys, but all of them can benefit from being ahead in the count, so thats what they chose to emphasize.

Another concern about Lewis is he is 6'4" 210lbs and Walton is 5'10" 184lbs and they both hit 11 HRs playing in the same parks. One is supposed to be a fringy UT and the other a cornerstone COFer.

According to reports Walton is supposed to have a below average arm for a SS. Did you see Lewis play in the playoffs? He seems to have some speed.
