Hancock just pitched his inning in the Futures Game. No hits, 3 K's, FB velocity was 95-97.
Had the most dominant and electric pitching performance of the day. His 95 mph fastball two-seamer had some late life, busting in on the right handers. He put Jordan Lawler away like he was Jerry Lawler. Its only a matter of time before Emerson steps in and takes over for Flexen or Gonzales. Now I know why he was once considered the #1 overall pick in the draft. If he stays healthy, then he could be another dominant 1st round pick for the Mariners rotation. I couldn't be more excited for the future of this organization.

Remember the doom and gloom of last year. Who was it that predicted he never pitches in the majors? Shoot maybe the mariners actually handled him correctly :

Might have been me. I was pretty down on him. I'm still not sure it makes sense for him to start. With his history, 60 innings per season as a reliever seems more sustainable than any kind of starter workload.

Please. They aren't handling any of their young SPs correctly. The entire reason why they have to be careful w/ Kirby this yr is b.c they didn't let the kid pitch in '19, 20 or '21. He should have pitched a minimum of 100 innings each yr, 120 being more of a target. And don't give me "well, he had shoulder fatigue." Shoulder fatigue. That's hilarious. Like Kikuchi going down w/ a neck issue. Maybe it was serious, maybe it wasn't. But I do think if Kirby was allowed to really get after it last yr, every 5-6 days, 6+ innings, 90+ pitches, he would never have had this shoulder fatigue issue. He was given too much rest, did very little pitching

They will re-air on MLB Network on Sunday(today) I believe. Otherwise I think you can still check it out if you have Peacock. Hancock pitched the 6th judt FYI.

Keith Law on Emerson Hancock's outing at the Futures Game: Mariners right-hander Emerson Hancock has had trouble with injuries since Seattle took him in the first round in 2020, but he was electric in his outing Saturday, 96-97 with big time sink along with a plus changeup that looked incredibly deceptive right out of his hand. He threw one slider, but it backed up on him.

He is another reason that I won't be surprised if we don't trade for a starter.

If the version of Emerson Hancock is what I saw last night, and able to stay healthy, fuck getting another starter. I'll take 6 years of Hancock minimum please! He looked like a #2 with a floor of a 3 or 4 at worst.
