Get Your Coffee Early Thursday Game Thread ~ 9/19/19

The real opportunity cost was wasting plate appearances on Mallex Smith.
He was obviously a negative hole from day one, yet they keep wasting plate appearances on him instead of players that dont suck.
That was the real opportunity cost this season. What a waste of plate appearances. We knew all we needed to know after two weeks. Has anything changed? No. He's terrible, just like he was in May.

I can see both sides of this debate. Given the lineup and SP they ran out there this morning I don't know how you can try any harder to lose. Can't win for losing comes to mind. It would be problematic to order players to throw the game so it is what it is. Not going to be sad they won. Here is LL's take:
To be honest, after hearing Dipoto talk about the vision of next year’s Mariners team, finishing this season strong is more appealing than a high draft pick. Seeing the energy the new guys—Sheffield and Lewis, among others—has infused into the team makes it exciting to think about what it will be like when the Evan Whites and Logan Gilberts, and the Jarred Kelenics and Julio Rodriguezes, get called up. The future is here now, and it’s pretty fun.

It's not one draft pick...geez.

True but beyond the 1st round it really gets to be crap shooty if you will. I agree its very Mariners to start winning right now but what are you gonna do.

They have been doing very well in later rounds since Hunter came in. It's not like that will stop, 2020 should be the highest he's been picking to date. I just want the scouts that are finally getting good players consistently to have access to the best possible as often as possible.

Believe me, I get it. These games will be long forgotten by ST. Just saying they odds of a guy you are targeting getting picked one or two spots ahead of you in the later rounds are pretty slim.Wishhiker wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 1:30 amThey have been doing very well in later rounds since Hunter came in. I get it that JD calls the general philosophy, but SS needs to let a prospect play and not be a RH on a L/R platoon if he produces.D-train wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 5:02 pmHe must not have been on one of the slips of paper SS pulls out of his hat/ass when making out his lineup.ice99 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 4:44 pmIt was odd to see Moore hit a home run then sit the next day. Then the day after that hit another home run, and then doesn't start for the next 2 days.
Here's hitting stats for the second half. We'll see how the season finishes out.
