Just let me bitch for a minute…
Lewis has become such a stain on this club, what is the point in keeping him on the 26?
When he was drafted, it was the most excited I’d been about an M’s prospect in YEARS. I PINED for the day we would see the future outfield of Klew, Leonys Martin, Ben Gamel, and Guillermo Heredia (I’m a dreamer). And then Lewis blows his knee to bits. Yes, injuries happen and his was major. But then I look at prominent NFL players who have blown their knees to bits, and some have come back even better than they were before.
Keenan Allen
Cooper Kupp
JJ Watt
Adrian Peterson
Jordy Nelson
Tom Brady
Gronkowski
I’m sure I’m missing some, but that’s a ton of evidence. And football is a much more brutal sport than baseball.
I hate comparing Lewis to other prominent athletes because everyone’s bodies are different, but dammit all to hell. Why does this team need to treat him like a porcelain doll? Shouldn’t there be a point where enough is enough and they cut their losses and move on? It’s not like he was some untouchable stud. I think his defense was always more valuable than his bat, and right now he’s moving around in the field like Benjamin Button.
If the team is holding him back from back to back games when the depth is this incredibly thin, then why exactly is he here?
If some want to flame me for this, fine. I know we live in a world where it’s hard to speak your opinions because in sports, it can all be about the “player empowerment” bullshit. Feelings get hurt. But I could care less. I’m old school, and only care about seeing my teams win.

As I said in another post...The Mariners are about to play their 259th game in the past season and just over a half. Kyle Lewis has played in 43 of them!
I for one will not be "flaming" you.

Perhaps the Mariner medical staff and Kyle Lewis' personal physician have better information than we have.

It's the torn meniscus that is the problem, not the earlier ACL injury.

It’s Dipoto’s fault for building a team that relies heavily on guys like Haniger and Lewis staying healthy after repeatedly proving they cannot.
Who could have predicted they would miss the majority of the season?

Re: Just let me bitch for a minute…
Haniger's injuries before this season just seemed like freakish bad luck. Hit in the face, then testicle injury during rehab, or whatever it was.
But then to get such a bad sprain just swinging the bat this year... What the hell? Such a damn shame, because unlike Kyle Lewis, we know Mitch is good when he plays.
With Lewis, he's missed so much time it's hard to even assess how good he is, or not. He started out hot in the shortened season, cooled off, got injured, looked good in brief appeances since, but right back to IL.

They actually never once counted on Lewis. A healthy Lewis is gravy. They probably won't keep him around beyond the next yr or 2 if he doesn't improve physically. I think he should consider stem cells. They are doing incredible things regenerating tissue and that's what he needs in that right knee, a stem cell injection.MarinerMike wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 2:33 amIt’s Dipoto’s fault for building a team that relies heavily on guys like Haniger and Lewis staying healthy after repeatedly proving they cannot.

I'd love to know if he and his medical team have talked about this.

Dip also has a massively hard time cutting guys loose that he thought were going to be key players like Toro for example.MarinerMike wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 2:33 amIt’s Dipoto’s fault for building a team that relies heavily on guys like Haniger and Lewis staying healthy after repeatedly proving they cannot.

I understand the frustration, but would you rather Lewis plays part time or have someone like Toro in the lineup every day? I'll take Lewis for whatever I can get out of him until they find a better option.

I don't think Toro would be in the lineup normally if Lewis sits. Julio would be in the lineup. We'll see what happens once that's the case. And even looking ahead, I'd rather see Trammell in the lineup everyday if he wasn't out right now.TraderGary wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 8:40 amI understand the frustration, but would you rather Lewis plays part time or have someone like Toro in the lineup every day? But sitting Santana against the Astros for Lewis at DH coming out of the break was gutless. No way that should've happened, not with the way Santana has been playing. Speaking of, watching 36 year old Santana beat out that infield single last night to ensure the insurance run scores was awesome and is something I don't think we'll see Lewis do for a long, long time, if ever.
