Re: Game Thread: Wild Card Game 1
I'm going to try to watch the game on my phone but if I can't get it I'll have to wait until I get home to watch the replay.
Those lineups, yikes. On paper we should get slaughtered. This is the lineup DiPoto wanted for reasons that remain baffling to all. Thankfully you're ultimately only as good as the opposing pitching you face and we've got it.

True, but my guess is he assumed Winker would be close to his All Star self, that Frazier would be close to at least average, that Kelenic wouldn't be epicly terrible again. In the COVID shortened year Frazier had a worse average than this season and a bit higher OPS. Otherwise? This is an historically bad season for him. Winker has never been close to this bad. If Kelenic is even just replacement level and those two play to their bubble gum cards? How much different is our lineup?DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 4:32 pm

Unless we are actually cursed, and this is just what happens, I can't see any world where Jerry would expect Winker's OPS to drop over .250 points or Frazier to be over .100 below his career average. It's either just ridiculously bad luck, or we are doing something with these players when they get here to fuck up a swing that was working prior, and will probably work when they leave.

Tiring as well. That is a hell of a delta on that situation too DT. Maybe it's due to some hitter/pitcher matchups Servais likes.D-train wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 4:01 pmYet they stubbornly stick with Frazier and his .624 OPS vs. RHPs rather than Moore who has a .714 OPS vs. RHPs. I guess they think this is the day Frazier finally turns it around???Cascade Kid wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 3:42 pmI don't understand why Suarez is batting 3rd and Haniger is batting 5th. It's like a lineup experiment is occurring in the their first postseason game in 21 years. Am I missing something?![]()

I think they are just obsessed with lefty righty matchups and don't even bother to look at the stats. Hopefully the Jays first starter is a lefty and he gets PH for.Cascade Kid wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 4:48 pmTiring as well. That is a hell of a delta on that situation too DT. Replace that 6-7-8 with quality players this offseason and that's a good lineup.
No idea how Frazier gets the nod over Moore given their numbers, unless the number that really matters is the $8M they paid Frazier.

I've got the 10/15 extension tax filing deadline for my clients coming up but I probably will take the afternoon off. I'm trying to think hey it's been 21 years so what's a few more hours, but I can't wait a few more hours.D-train wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 5:05 pmTake the afternoon off.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 4:32 pmI'm going to try to watch the game on my phone but if I can't get it I'll have to wait until I get home to watch the replay.
