World Cup 2022 Thread

Post by mostonmike » Thu Nov 17, 2022 12:28 pm

The World Cup gets underway this weekend. I am sure Darren will be looking forward to this, as much as he looks forward to a dentist appointment. :D

I will update the thread from time to time with some news and views.

For now here are the USMNT games - 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie and the top 2 teams to go through the knockout stages.

Group B fixtures:

Mon 21 Nov - USA vs Wales (Al Rayyan Stadium; 11am PT, 2pm ET, 7pm GMT)
Fri 25 Nov - England vs. USA (Al Bayt Stadium; 11am PT, 2pm ET, 7pm GMT)
Tue 29 Nov - Iran vs USA (Al Thumama Stadium; 11am PT, 2pm ET, 7pm GMT)

Mike! I'm glad we didn't go to Germany! Hope you are doing well my brother and hope to see you for Spring Training. I really think you will enjoy that even more than a trip to Seattle for a real game given the Access to players that we have at the Peoria training complex aka Baseball Mecca but if not in 2023 then 2024 for sure!

Here is the full schedule. So Group B consists of USA, our former Oppressor, ;) , our natural Rival and a country with 1 million LESS people than the City of LA. LOL

Me and the Mrs are looking at somewhere around the Med or North Africa around March. They are gifting vacations at the moment - we just saw an all inclusive for Tunisia for £300 / $350 each for instance. Madeira is cheap but that’s not on my bucket list :D. I don’t think we can turn down all food and drink for a week for $700.

The US trip will be pencilled in for May as usual but I think we will go for ST in 2024. It does sound and look like a ball of a time.

The Evil Empire were awful today. England rarely get off to such a great start and our version of Julio Rodriguez truly announced his entry on the big stage, aged just 19 (Jude Bellingham)

I am really looking forward to this USA v Wales game tonight. Wales will give this game such commitment that defies the expectation of a country with a population of 3 million. I wouldn’t be surprised if they won. Bookmakers here have Wales slight favourites.

If there is one game that I would expect to demonstrate why football is so loved worldwide I predict it’s going to be this one. It should be a great advert for the game.

So put your money on a 0-0 (remember it’s nil-nil) now I said that  (6/1)
