Official Draft pick position watch thread

Post by D-train » Tue Dec 20, 2022 12:51 pm

So if we are eliminated from the playoffs and Denver is tied with the Rams for the 3rd overall pick going into the last week of the season vs. the Rams should we see what Drew Lock can do or play all the starters the full game?

The Denver Rams game in LA on Christmas is huge. Rams win and they fall back in draft position and Denver pick moves up. If Denver wins we risk dropping out of the top 5.

Hopefully Aaron Donald will be close to 100% and Wilson will be rattled early and punch-drunk most of the game. And also will need Baker to make some tasty pastries for Christmas feasting.

Always a weird battle.

People get upset w. the Seahawks because they haven't advanced far in the playoffs in a little while. But at the same time, they've also made the playoffs 9 of the last 11 years and finished no worse than 7 wins, which will happen again this season.

Would you rather be the Seahawks who haven't been to the NFC Championship in 7 years but have made the playoffs 5 of those years and have a combined record of 69-44-1... basically every season has been at least a bit competitive?

OR

Would you rather be the 49ers who have a record of 46-67 have made one Super Bowl and an NFC Championship, but didn't win the big one and have finished last place with throw away seasons 4 times, and missed the playoffs 5 times?

OR

Would you rather be the Rams who have 3 division titles and 4 playoffs appearances, a combined record of 66-47, have made the Super Bowl twice, winning once and only scoring 3 points in another, had a 4-win season in '16, and look to be heading to another 4-5 win campaign in 2022?

Personally, I'd choose the Seahawks every day of the week. It's much more fun as a fan having a reason to tune into every game of a season versus having a lost season where it's just dreary.

I'm glad the Rams don't have a top pick in this coming draft. Stupid fucks bought their Super Bowl title and are paying what the Bronco's paid for their '15 SB win.

I would take the 49ers path over ours...IF they had won the Big One, but probably our path over the Rams...now. Last year? Nope, but we have seen how soon the future can come when you mortgage it.

The 49ers are an oddity though. It has really been injuries for the most part that have held them back. And...imagine this scenario if Tart makes the INT in the NFCCG. The 49ers are the defending NFC Champs, if not the Super Bowl Champs. They had some down years, but even some of our up years were mediocre when you compare us to the top of the League. Those playoff losses proved it.

I would go in the absolute opposite direction. They have had 5 seasons in the last 7 with 6 or fewer wins. That's 5 seasons where they were basically out of it by mid season and you'd have no reason to tune in.

People want to chastise the Seahawks for not having as complete of a roster as SF...

Well it's pretty easy to build a roster when you have 5x top 10 picks because your teams have been non-competitive, frankly horrible, most of the time. Not only that, but they get high picks in every round of every draft 5 of the past 7 years.

Prior to the '22 draft, Seattle hadn't drafted w. a pick higher than 27 since 2012. The Hawks would love to have Nick Bosa right? Well... they haven't been within 25 picks of a player like that in 13 years.

How many times has that been due to injuries? The Colts got Luck because Manning was hurt. That shit happens all the time. They had some down years after Harbaugh, no one is saying they haven't. But, more Divisional Championships since 2014 than us, more NFCCG appearances and more Super Bowls. Staying "relevant" for a long time has gotten us to what we are right now....pretty damn bad. Not the worst, thank God, because if we were run by bumbling idiots like the Cards and Chargers? We'd be a 4 win team right now. Which? Might be better. Imagine two picks inside the Top 10 in the first and second rounds!

I would trade two of those years that we looked like absolute dog shit in the first round of the playoffs, maybe three....for one more Ring. So, like I said, I would trade with the 49ers IF they had won the big one. In that case? They would be one miracle NFCGG away from basically the same as us. We just won the miracle, and they lost it.

Hell, I would trade that victory over Green Bay if it meant 2nd and Goal never happened and this team didn't implode! My frustration level right now is HALF of what it was for the past several seasons. We couldn't get out of our own way back then. NOW? We just aren't very good, but we have cap space and draft capital. Losing WC weekend to blow or trade back from another middling 1st round draft pick is what got us here. I love people pissing and moaning about how bad teams are only good now because they got early first round picks. No shit, that's why they set the league up that way. The thing is? Look at how many of those teams are ALWAYS bad anyway. That doesn't include the 49ers. Bad luck and injuries, IMO, is what keeps the 49ers from having the same number of NFC Rings and Super Bowl Rings as us. Again, had we tanked a few of those seasons we were going to suck in the Super Bowl anyway? And actually UTILIZED the draft capital from it? We wouldn't be a 7 and 10 or 8 and 9 team right now. IMO.

That is not me advocating for tanking in the NFL, not at all. I don't think the 49ers did. They just had a ton of injuries and lucked into some great draft picks because of it.

Is SEA in a can't-lose scenario?

Lose the last 3 games and receive two 1st round picks.
Lose to the Chiefs but beat the Jets and Rams and there is an outside chance at the playoffs. And a 9 win season.
Sweep last 3 games and sneak into the playoffs.
