If the Dbacks see the writing on the wall with how much other teams in the NL have improved, maybe they do move Gurriel and Christian Walker and build around this catcher.

If Gurriel just pushes Haggerty to third outfielder, and Walker takes DH/1B, it would be a pretty decent lineup.

Baseball Trade Values assigns surplus values of $5.6 million for Gurriel and $5.8 million for Kepler. Seattle's competitive balance draft pick alone has a listed value of $6.2 million. Gurriel and Kepler could be affordable.

Sure they may very well have to settle for something else, but until they do I'm interested in the possibility of finding the player described. Actually he might not be that hard to find, but then there is the cost. To keep the cost down we are looking for a guy in the last year of his contact, and all we need him for is one season because we are not looking to block youngsters. Some sort of a journeyman that can mash from the right side, carry a glove to left field

They're going to have Teoscar leaving at the end of 2023 also, why would it be beneficial to have two outfield vacancies?

We don't have any obvious answers coming in the minors at corner outfield.

They should be focused on filling the hole for a few years so they're not in an even worse position next offseason imo.

But he isn't a platoon candidate, we wouldn't be settling for Gurriel, guy's a starter. The guy I'm thinking of is more limited, the one thing he can do well is mash left-handed pitching. Come on, who is he?

The Mariners could rotate Julio Rodriguez, Teoscar Hernandez, Lourdes Gurriel, Max Kepler and Jarred Kelenic through the OF/DH slots (hoping that Gurriel can learn first base give Ty France an occasional break). The rotation is deep enough to provide insurance against another Jarred Kelenic underpeformance.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is no Bryan Reynolds.

Steamer projects Gurriel with a 2023 WAR of 1.5 in 126 games and Reynolds with a 2023 WAR of 4.0 in 150 games. Curiously Steamer projects Gurriel with a wRC+ of 119 and Reynolds with a wRC+ of 125. The defensive metrics favor Gurriel although a move off center field would likely help Reynolds.

I can see the M's projecting both Trammell and JK as their corner OFer's in 2023. Don't you have faith in DiPoto and the Front Office? With another year in Tacoma, they should be ready to go in 2023, right? Right?
