Geno's 32
Agreed, but Smith is 32, Huntley is 24. Franchise Geno, trade for Huntley and let Geno mentor him.

You're going to tag Geno and then ask him to groom his replacement? Good luck with that.
Re: Official Draft pick position watch thread
It will be interesting to see how SEA handles Smith's situation going forward.

Geno's reps "We're getting offers from other teams. Geno's having a career year, he can cook! The grass may be greener if you don't wanna pay up!"
John Schneider and Pete exchange sly chuckles; "Yeah, that's what Russell thought, too. Good luck with that."
Geno's rep turns pale "...I'm sure we can work something out."

One year for Geno. And the four QB's listed, if they continue this year's performance, might just be worth taking a flyer on. Mistake? Perhaps, but there is always a risk with draft picks.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 6:52 pmI think it wiuld be a mistake to both sign Geno to a multi-year extension and to draft a QB with a high pick.

Re: Official Draft pick position watch thread
you are all wrong. Franchising him would pay him $30 million guaranteed. You think he wouldn't sign for $30 million guaranteed? And if he wouldn't, that they wouldn't let him walk? He also won't sign a one year deal. Why would he? This is his one chance to cash in.
The correct course of action is to sign him for a team friendly 3-4 year deal, easy on the guaranteed money, heavy on performance bonuses. Space out the cap hit over a few years. Use the draft to add young talent around him, plus a couple veterans via free agency. Pick QB-of-the-future in the 2nd or 3rd - there are some good ones that aren't projected too high - and let them sit and learn for a year or two. Alternatively, make a trade to add a top pick for next year, and use that on a star QB.
All of this is contingent on Geno taking a reasonable deal. If he plays hardball, you draft your guy, and sign another reasonable stop-gap vet like Andy Dalton or whatever to take the pressure off him.

Not seeing what franchising him gets you, and the second time gets more expensive than the first
