Not really but I'll drop it since I don't want to be accused of arguing

Why round down? 70.9 is 4.1 % away from 75% and 4.2 % away from 66.7%. At least do the math if you are going to make a statement, why the fuck round down to 70 from 70.9 to make it look like you are right? Still closer to 75 %. And if he's better against lefties, teams aren't going to throw their lefty relievers at him like they do let handed hitters.

Make a statement? I made a casual comment that I understood the ratio for starters was around two thirds one third. Do the math? That's what I wrote, "And I was thinking in terms of starting pitchers, believe it breaks down about 2/3 righties, 1/3 lefties" how is that a statement? You do the fucking math, I didn't come here to do math. And here comes DavidGee to toss his atwo bits in, lol.

70.9 doesn't round down to 70. I just did the math for you since you couldn't be bothered. It's closer to 75.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 2:19 pmMake a statement? You're welcome to do my math. Did you notice the word "about" in my comment do you understand what that word means? " reasonably close to".

If you mean position players only, I believe the last MLB regulars the system produced were Jose Lopez and Ketel Marte. If you include pitchers, don't forget Felix.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 1:12 pmJulio has heightened expectations and hopes exponentially. Who was our last Latin home grown star? Edgar? who just turned 60 yo??? LOLDonn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 1:05 pmYeah it's a dice roll. But I think it's perfectly legitimate that it was pointed out Pipeline placed a higher ceiling on celesten than they did Franco, that was factual. If you are going to deal with prospects you need a language, ceiling is part of that language. That he may or not be successful, who knows.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:34 pmOn MLB Pipeline, you can look back as far as 2013 to see the Top 30 international prospects in any given year. It's worth glancing through those lists to understand how much of a low percentage bet each of these prospects are. It's incredible actually, how few of them turn into major league players of any kind, not just stars. 2014 is especially bad. If I'm not mistaken, none of the top 30 actually developed into major league players, although maybe there's some guy in there whose name I didn't recognize.
I'm not saying we shouldn't be pleased about what the Mariners are doing with their international scouting and development. We should be. But the idea that we should be pumped as fans that our 16-17 year-old is more highly rated than a bunch of other 16-17 year-olds is absolutely absurd. It's nonsense.
The interesting question to me is why is the failure rate so incredibly high? I know part of it is the skills gap, that they don't have the youth baseball infrastructure in the DR and Venezuela that we do in the states. Also in the states, even with the extensive youth baseball system, the majority of major league regulars actually come from players drafted out of college, which suggests that the skills gap is at play here as well.

Yeah Ketel put up 2.4 WAR before bein traded and Jose put up 10.3 WAR in 7 seasons. I don't think anyone would be excited about Felnin if either of those two scenarios play out.

And yet those outcomes would actually be on the high end, statistically.
It's interesting to me how few legitimate stars are actually identified as Top 5 IFA prospects when they are 16-17. It's almost like there's this phenomenon with athletically gifted young men where their bodies and brains continue to develop into their late teens.

Yes, that really opened my eyes. Thanks for putting that together, Gabe!GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 8:42 pmAnd yet those outcomes would actually be on the high end, statistically.
