I think it's over

Post by douche » Wed Oct 23, 2019 6:52 pm

Carroll was a real breath of fresh air when he arrived in SEA. Between him and Schneider, they built an incredible defense, acquired Marshawn Lynch and drafted Russell Wilson. But their SB victory occurred while many of the young, hungry players were on rookie contracts. Now? The LOB and Lynch are long gone and Wilson is just a rich guy on an island.

Between Carroll's inability to challenge calls, his complete lack of time-clock management skills and his vanilla offense, the future looks dim. They may beat ATL this weekend (as they should), but the remaining schedule is rough. LAR, Niners twice, Vikings. They'll probably finish 9-7, 10-6 if they're fortunate. No, the sky isn't falling because they lost to BAL, but the win against the Rams was pure luck and they were lucky to squeak past the Bengals. Realistically, this is a .500 team.

I don't dislike Carroll, but the game has passed him by. Look at NE. They know they're good, they know they should beat teams, so that's what they do. Unlike SEA, who almost always plays to the level of competition. And the slow starts? Those will come back to bite them.

Who should replace Carroll? I don't know the answer to that, but it's over for this regime.

Welcome to the forum. Just curious if you posted on the Seattle Times forum and or how you found us. Thanks!

I don't understand the reluctance to run a true RPO with Russell running much more than he does and how they used to run it. Russell is smart, gets down to avoid hits and can usually make the right decisions. You watch, and that DE crashes down about 90% of the time to take Carson and the corner is wide open. How about actually PASSING off the RPO instead of always running?

What bugs me is that I see nothing new in the playbook from week to week. I see no scheming of plays to take advantage of match-ups. They run the same old tired plays from the same tired playbook every single week. I swear, every time I see Russell get into shotgun and move Carson from one side to the other, you already know they're running that stupid dive play out of that formation. Thank God Carson is strong enough and can fall forward for an extra 3 yards most of the time.

How about an I-formation, play action pass? How about some fucking screen passes to take the pressure off Wilson when the defensive front four are screaming up the field? How about anything but the same 5-10 plays we see every drive?

That's why I love watching Andy Reid's and Belichick's systems. They devise new and unseen plays against their opponents each week. This regime just pretends they are living in 2013 with the same dominant defense and Marshawn Lynch and think their 'system' will always win out, or Russell can pull something out of his ass in the 4th quarter.

Can anyone on this staff actually create or come up with new plays that expose the other team's weaknesses?

Stubbornness and reluctance to adapt does seem to be their major weaknesses.

I'm not totally on board with Carroll at this point either, but how exactly did they get "lucky" against the Rams? Because their kicker missed a field goal?

Douche, you stated your case, gave your reasons and I don't see why that can't be respected.
I think the Pete Carroll Seahawks have done a tremendous job over the years of moving out the old talent and bringing in new players that have proven to be ready to win. It took longer than we hoped to replace Lynch and the O-Line..but the Hawks were able to still be a competitive team while the difficult search to rebuild a great running game was in progress.
Coach Carroll & Co. have proven to be great judges of talent and how to get the most from that talent. There is of course some luck involved when speculating about which players will give you the most but I think Seahawks management has shown too many times that they are better at this judging talent stuff than average.
I can't picture any scenario any time soon where Carroll is asked to step down. In spite of some criticism of his clock management..look at how many comeback from behind victories he has helped make possible.

Let's talk about jolly old New England shall we? The best team they have played this year is the Pittsburgh Steelers. . Jets twice, Dolphins, Buffalo (should've lost) , Redskins and Giants. All those teams are horrible.

Second let's compare division opponents. Every team in the NFC West has played in a Superbowl (including Arizona) the past years. When's the last time Jets played in the Superbowl? Hint: Their QB wore pantyhose. Bills? Dolphins? New England plays those teams twice a year.

You put New England in NFC West and no one is talking about the genius of Bill Belichick. They get an automatic bid into the playoffs every year. Take nothing away from them but spare me the longing for their coaching staff when the H3have had great success under way more difficult circumstances. Hell they are 5-2 now.
