Well, that makes you lucky on one particular play, but the Hawks overall earned that win. And 44 yards? Quite makeable, but it's not like they got a Blair Walsh gift there. You could say by the same token that the Rams were lucky to even be in that spot.douche wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 1:20 pmYes.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2019 7:58 pmI'm not totally on board with Carroll at this point either, but how exactly did they get "lucky" against the Rams? Because their kicker missed a field goal?

I dont want him replaced, but maybe adapt some. The best coaches do it, and I feel it is something Pete could do more of.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 4:39 pmPete has made the playoffs 7 out of 9 years. He has a 9-6 record in the playoffs. He's gone to 2 super bowls winning one and now there are people that want him replaced while the team is 5-2. Amazing!

Never said it was impossible. I said it was flirting with disaster. 10 screens a game? Now who is being ridiculous?XpertDBA wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 9:32 pm
While I might agree that the line isn't good enough to execute that kind of play, I'm just saying having that threat and to demonstrate it might open up other things. Your argument of a 5'11" QB throwing over rushing linemen is kind of ridiculous, as Drew Brees has been doing it 4-10 times a game for quite a few years now. If Russell can't execute a simple screen play (which I'm quite positive he can), then he shouldn't be in the NFL.
Re: I think it's over
fyi just to be clear on the personal attacks issue. I think this exchange is totally fine. We are all grown men and shouldn't cry if someone disagrees or thinks our opinion is crazy or ridiculous. Let's just try to not take it to the next level calling the actual person an idiot as that is taking it too far, is pointless and makes the forum a more negative place to be. imo We are all Hawks fans after all.ThePro wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:23 pmNever said it was impossible. I hope you guys agree. Let me know if anyone doesn't. Thanks.

Asking someone to "adapt" who has had so much success at his last two coaching positions is not realistic. Why or what do you think he is not adapting to? Can use give a specific example? I'm seriously asking. You do a good job of communicating your opinion I want to understand this stance. Right now I don't get it at all.Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:21 pm

I think continued success requires someone to adapt, so it is very realistic.ThePro wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:52 pmAsking someone to "adapt" who has had so much success at his last two coaching positions is not realistic. I think there are MANY things he refuses to change, or adapt. First of all, you can't coach this team like it has the Super Bowl team's defense. Many indications point to that being what he does. Watch the Rams game and see what we did with a lead. He played like all he had to do was milk the clock. Opting for the long FG was bad enough, but the play calling in the 3rd and 4th quarter were atrocious. I hate our style with a lead even when the defense WAS great. Think back to all the blown 4th quarter leads. The game of football is not designed for defenses anymore, and it certainly ins't designed for a defense to stop a desperate offense in a no huddle hurry up. The last team with the ball in a close game usually wins. But Pete feels like 3rd downs in the 4th quarter if you have a lead are just something you do before you punt it away!
The ridiculous hormonal challenges are stupid. It isn't someone up stairs telling him to challenge. He has admitted as much on KIRO. After the stupid challenge on a Baldwin no catch a few years ago he admitted that he did it because Doug wanted him to and the last time Doug wanted him to he didn't and he felt bad. That is utterly stupid. Don't get hormonal and be a cheerleader and botch clock management (Super Bowl), don't be hormonal and make stupidly rash decisions (Fake FG against Atlanta with no timeouts and the half almost over), don't challenge shit just because you want to, and then consistently tell us it's all about the ball and curl up into a ball in every fourth quarter you have a lead and in every first quarter ever! It isn't all about the ball when he decides he wants to do something stupid!
And finally, forget that the defense isn't very good. Look at the offense. Tell me we should run the same shit we used to run, but we do. The only difference is now the jump ball fades are thrown to DK and the big back slamming into the line is Carson and not Beast. There has been very little adapting to the fact that we have a Franchise QB. The offense is run his way, and I love the run first philosophy, but not when it means every third and two is a read option and every fourth down is a FG or a Punt.
I heard all I needed to hear when he countered the missed FG against Baltimore with "we should have punted." No dude, you should have gone for it. A missed FG is even worse than going for it because they give the ball to the other team at the SPOT OF THE KICK. Two times he made this call this year, once resulted in a loss and the other he needed a missed FG from one of the best in the game to not lose.
He hasn't adapted. He coaches this team like it is 2012. The team is not the same, the League is not the same, the Division is not the same and the damn game is not played or officiated the same.
Re: I think it's over
The offense is completely different than the 2012 offense. '12 offense was a WCO hybrid. They run a vertical stretch now. There are only two types of offensive plays. Run or pass. Not sure exactly what you want to see. This team is on pace to be the best offensive team under Carroll with a probable MVP candidate at QB. True the defense isn't as good but it can be good enough. They held the #4 offense in the league to 340 total yards and no defensive TDs til the 4th quarter (It took a 4th down conversion to do that). I disagree with going for it being the right call. That's a gamble. You miss its a turnover. Punting would have been the best option. That's what I personally was expecting in that weather. Would have been nice if Meyer hit the thing. He had plenty of leg. Carroll has had continued success. If you ate equating success to Superbowl championships then I guess no.Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 11:45 pmI think continued success requires someone to adapt, so it is very realistic.ThePro wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:52 pmAsking someone to "adapt" who has had so much success at his last two coaching positions is not realistic. Re: I think it's over
I didn't like the FG attempt but like I have said, I hated the 3rd down call more. If you are going to be a smash mouth running team run it on 3rd and two with your Bell Cow RB Carson. If he only gets one yard, then on 4th and 1 and run it a again. If you HAVE to pass, for the love of God throw past the line to gain which is far less than a DK broad jump (134 inches btw)
from the LOS. But no, they go with a sideways pass to the smallest guy on the team with zero blockers in the area.

I am not talking as much scheme as I am style. He has an MVP candidate at QB, and won’t open anything up until we are behind, and clams up when ahead. He coaches the same way, afraid to lose instead of trying to win. Take a knee at the end of the game...instead we punt it away and hope for a stop.

And if we are this smash mouth power run team Pete claims, short yardage in plus territory shouldn’t be a punt. Don’t tell me one thing and do another.
Fucking fake FG against Atlanta that made about as much since as tits on a boar, but going for it there wasn’t worthwhile? Both decisions lost him the game. It was especially driven home when Baltimore didn’t even attempt a chip shot, and instead went for it in the same down and distance.
