The bad 1st quarters and slow starts don't speak well to Schottenheimer's game planning.

You guys seem to have short memories or little conviction, because i could swear you both were critics of the offensive play-calling not to long ago.
I am critical of Pete Carroll's refusal to change, and we even saw some of that on Sunday. We fell behind 21 to 7...which luckily was enough for Pete to decide we could start playing offense.

I may be wrong, but I don't remember spending much time criticizing Schotty….but I have spent years irritated with PC's thought process that the only quarter that matters is the 4th, and there is no reason to play offense until then.

Have you ever listened to Pete Carroll? You can't win the game until the 4th quarter. I am sorry, that just isn't how the game is played today. Russell allows that to work for more than it should, but IMO, he needs to switch that mind set with this team. Because not all of the rest of our opponents will be allowing us to come back from early 21 to 7 holes. I firmly believe after watching it with Bates, Bevell and now Schotty….and listening to him tell me about it for years, that Pete actually believes his own bullshit about not needing play offense until the 4th quarter. That punts are a win early in games because it wasn't a turnover.

Sure, Pete has some issues but i find it hard to believe he tells his offensive coordinators to just protect the ball and not worry about getting 1st downs early in games.

When have they had a bad 1st quarter or slow start this year?

They should be better than that considering they're 7th in points per game.

Not a new thing at all. It isn’t as drastic this year, but it wasn’t that long ago we averaged about five times as many points in the fourth than the first, and it was usually because we needed to get desperate in the 4th.

Our best quarter is the 2nd and our worst is the 3rd.

1st 16th 4.4 points
2nd 3rd 10.0
3rd 22nd 4.0
4th 4th 8.4

So we suck starting a half and are great finishing a half.
