I think we are good at 2B for 2024

Post by D-train » Wed Sep 20, 2023 11:27 am

We have so many holes I think we should go with internal options for 2B given there isn't Jack in FA.

Rojas: 0.6 WAR in only 106 PAs .728 OPS
Cabby: 2.4 WAR in only 279 PAs
Bliss: in 78 PAs in Sept he is at .365/1.189 for the Rainiers

And you also have Moore and Haggarty who can play there in a pinch. Now if we can just get France back to 2021 levels!

Yeah I guess if JP can rebound, then France can too but going with him and Ford again for 1B/DH isn't a viable option imo but probably means that is exactly what they will do. Probably will spend $90 on diet pills for Ty and call it good.

Taking a look at how these guys have done since the start of 2022, second base is the least of our problems besides CF.

Both Dylan Moore and Jose Caballero have been better players than JP Crawford according to WAR/600.

Dylan has been worth 2.5 WAR in 403 plate appearances.
JP has been worth 6.5 WAR in 1193 plate appearances.
Cabby has been worth 2.2 WAR in 271 plate appearances.

Dylan has a higher OPS (.746) since the beginning of 2022 than JP (.743) or France (.737), and just behind Geno (.751) and Teo (.760).

Mike Ford has the third highest OPS (.780) in that time, behind only Tom Murphy and Julio.

It's crazy to me to see how they play Ty, Geno and Teo every day, but they hardly use Dylan Moore or Mike Ford.

I think when they made the trade for Rojas and Bliss that the need for 2B (regardless of how they've played) diminished quickly.

Now about 1B, 3B, a corner OF and DH...

Same holes they've had for 4+ years now.

What do we do about France?

We have seen the potential he has with the bat, but everything has dropped off this season. He's not exactly a liability, but he's also been dropped down in the batting order, he hits into double plays like crazy, and he's one of the worst clutch hitters on the team. (note: I have no stats to back any of that shit up - it's just the impression I've gotten the last few months).

So - trade him? Keep him? Order us a new legit 1B off Amazon and put Ty as full time DH?

Could non-tender him in all actuality.

To me, a trade for Pete Alonso makes too much sense. Could include France in a possible trade.

People say that the part timers wouldn't be able to sustain there WAR/600 rates for a full season. I call bullshit. Far more likely that given hitting is so much about timing that they might do even better. Ford is on record saying that very thing.

I am sure Mets fans will be jacked to get a 1B with an OPS 50 points lower than Vogey. lol
