If they had just played .500 ball in the month of September they would have 88 wins right now.
And after how great August was? We'd probably be in here talking about "what ifs" even if they had played .500! Just an insane collapse. The thing is, this is what I expected. I just didn't expect us to suck hard, then get red hot, then suck hard again. I totally expected us to compete but not make the playoffs. Just didn't do enough in the off season. That said, I sure allowed myself to buy in after August!
Seriously schizo team.
Winning percentage by month
March/April .428
May .607
June .375
July .654
August .778
September .360

Next time put in the contest what you expect……..gives it a little credibility

Yeah, I didn't get in on the prediction this year. Mostly because I was lazy and partly because I didn't pay attention. I saw something about predicting JK's HRs, and stopped paying attention since "I don't care how many he hits I think he stinks" wasn't a correct answer. LOL

Someone in here earlier said "they'll win 85 to 90 every year and just barely miss the playoffs", and I couldn't agree more. We will always be just good enough to make money, but never real good because we won't spend the money we make. I still believe that some of it is because guys don't want to come here, but I blame ownership for that too for creating an environment were we will never go for it.

Good points.

We always like to point to the Cano days as if that was the standard of where our payroll should be.

The fact is it was the one push ownership ever made, amd now we're back to the status quo.

All Right. 3 games to go

If the M's go 3-0
M's are AL West Champs if Houston goes 2-1
M's are Wild Card 2 if Houston goes 1-2 or worse and Toronto goes 1-2 or worse
M's are Wild Card 3 if Houston goes 1-2 or worse and Toronto goes 2-1 or better
M's are Wild Card 3 if Houston goes 3-0 and Toronto goes 1-2 or worse
M's are eliminated if Houston goes 3-0 and Toronto goes 2-1 or better

If the M's go 2-1
M's cant win the AL West
M's are Wild Card 2 if Houston goes 1-2 or worse and Toronto goes 0-3
M's are Wild Card 3 if Houston Goes 1-2 or worse and Toronto goes 1-2 or better
M's are Wild Card 3 if Toronto goes 0-3 and Houston goes 2-1 or better
M's are eliminated if Houston goes 2-1 or better and Toronto goes 1-2 or better

If the M's go 1-2
M's cant win AL West
M's cant win Wild Card 2
M's are Wild Card 3 if Houston goes 0-3
M's are eliminated if Houston goes 1-2 or better.

Pretty close to controlling our own destiny because this seems unlikely:

If AZ beats Houston tonight, they clinch a wildcard spot, which means they're likely to be resting people on Saturday/Sunday. But, that's also good news because AZ will be fighting hard for at least 1 win.

Then Bluejays are playing Rays who've locked up wc1 already.

Anyway, Mariners... Just win out, it's that simple!

Still, hard to believe that we are now in a position where we could sweep the division leading Rangers and still not make the playoffs.
