war/advanced stats
on this podcast https://youtu.be/3mH3PJNZYlA?si=QaH4zzSS3-yftthA
lyle goldstein stuck up for dipotos step foward comment by saying, based on war the mariners were a 94 win team. considering they won 88 games, what is the point of war? isn't it just the, if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle?

Re: war/advanced stats
The WAR simply backs up what the other stats say. They improved over 2022 in every single offensive category except for strikeouts. Their run differential increased from a +67 last year to +99 this year. That differential should translate to about 92 wins. Personally I think a big part of that is the breakdown in the bullpen after they traded off Sewald. Not winning as many of those tight games leads to under performing your Pythagorean record. In the end the only thing that matters is wins but the other stats (including WAR) can tell us where the holes are and what needs to be addressed to hopefully get that win total up next year.

I still say WAR doesn't account for the nuance that often decides games.

Re: war/advanced stats
The Mariners' negative CLUTCH FACTOR rating explains why they won fewer games than stats like WAR would seem to indicate that they should have won.

Re: war/advanced stats
if clutch factor can override war, shouldn't clutch factor be more valuable then?

Re: war/advanced stats
Well, since the stat-makers view it as mainly an artifact of luck, they don't want to incorporate it into WAR or use it in a predictive capacity.

Clutch is inherently SSS.

WAR definitely doesn't account for the intangibles such as motivation, positive mental attitude and working as a team on a common goal that has been instilled in and currently permeates Husky football resulting in an amazing winning culture. It shouldn't surprise anyone it does NOT exist with the Mariners given the half ass off seasons and trade deadline surrenders of 2021 and 2023 and this discontent was expressed loudly and clearly by the precious Core of Cal, JP and Gilbert on the final two days of the season.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2023 10:29 pmI still say WAR doesn't account for the nuance that often decides games.
Until Jerry finally gets this or is replaced this team will continue to flounder in mediocrity below expectations.....
