Don't know what to make of this guy. Has 6,000 followers. Interesting if true.
Juan Soto would be awesome, but the package required to get him might be insane. However, San Diego had to take out a $50M loan to cover their over head costs last season.
Juan Soto would be awesome for Seattle but he is worth such a big trade package?
I had read similar article that they had to take out a loan to cover payroll. So that means technically the team isn't making money.
And they probably expected to cover those costs with Playoff ticket sales lol...never happened. So he'd be a two year loaner for a hefty price! Not worth it. He's gonna get more money than Ohtani.

Being cheap to me is a budget constraint.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 4:15 pmPlease don't call it budget constraints. It is refusal to spend. The spent almost $200M in 2018 in 2023 dollars. They are only at $130M now.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 3:17 pmI don't know about perfect but realistic? You're trying to fill right field with a guy that makes contact as well as bring some power? Realistically Gurriel would seem reasonable, particularly with what is probably budget constraints

I've been a fan of a Soto trade for a while. But not recently. He only has one more year on his contract, so he'd be an absolute minimum loaner, and we'd be giving up a lot of controllable talent for one year of service.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 4:25 pmDon't know what to make of this guy. But correct me if I am wrong, but couldn't the M's try to entice him with a new contract before he hits free agency? I mean there are not guarantees, but let's say they get him, they like him, he likes Seattle, and we want to try to offer him a longer deal. Could we? My guess is there's too many maybes here, and Soto is likely going to want to test free agency where he'd likely get a bigger contract. But I am just wondering that if all the stars aligned he might be turned into something longer term...

To me a budget constraint (and this applies only to Pro sports orgs) is the max you can pay without losing money and they made almost $100M and led the league in profits.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 4:32 pmBeing cheap to me is a budget constraint.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 4:15 pmPlease don't call it budget constraints. His agent is Scott Boras. Boras isn't letting Soto not test FA. Whatever you offer would only look like the beginning of a market to Boras that would need to be testedBig_Maple wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 4:36 pmI've been a fan of a Soto trade for a while. Actually it would not be insane because he is only here for one year and will make $33M so not a huge amount of surplus value there.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 4:25 pmDon't know what to make of this guy. Has 6,000 followers. Interesting if true.

Yep he is a one year rental. Woo, Miller or Castillo would do it.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 4:40 pmHis agent is Scott Boras. Boras isn't letting Soto not test FA. If it is true that hitters don't want come here as free agents then the mariners might as well sign free agent pitchers and trade young cost control pitching for young cost control hitting assuming that they are able to identify hitters.
