It's not ownerships fault imo.

They could have made the playoffs the last three years in a row by making better personnel decisions.

Ownership has no incentive to keep increasing payroll when Dipoto wastes 30-50 million dollars on unproductive players year after year.

Before last season I made a post detailing all of the $'s he's wasted every season.

Then he wasted a ton in 2023.

Now he already has a ton of wasted $'s on the books for 2024... it's not likely they're going to give him more rope to hang himself with.

Spending $12M on 2B for a basket full of mid at best players...

If they felt that way about him why wouldn't they just fire him

He's responsible for a ton of wasted money as well as record profits, interesting dichotomy

It is. At some point you figure, he's making money, but also blowing money.

So let's stop him from blowing more money.

Or it's the cost of doing business. Like a gambling system and just focusing on losing hands. If he's returning record profits maybe it's working.

He's wasted far more than most teams GM's below the $200M payroll range over the last 8 years, I have zero doubts about that much.

Everything is working except for the players he actually spends money on who have almost all underperformed.

He still has a job, so he's definitely keeping ownership happy by "taking a step back" and cutting their payroll to where they're still $20M short of their 2018 payroll while maintaining the illusion of being competitive.

Since about 2020, payroll hasn't increased like anybody expected it to.

My guess is because they figured out they're not getting an adequate return on investment from the players he's given contracts to or taken on in trade.

They have an 8 year track record of failures, from Nori Aoki and Adam Lind to Marco and Evan White, without many successes in between.

I could be wrong, but really they might as well limit the damage (spending) since he's not getting any production from that part of his repertoire anyways.

But, you're right, it is more likely that they're just oblivious to all that and rolling in their record profits. At that point, what do they care.

Either way, that's why they don't just replace him to answer your question.

It's just not working for fans who care about winning.

Something in regards to Trout news
Héctor Gómez

SOURCE: The #Dodgers will be very aggressive looking to sign the two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani and get the 11-time All-Star center fielder Mike Trout via trade. They are willing to give up their best prospects in exchange for landing Trout

That's what I am thinking, both Trout and Ohtani to the Dodgers? Moreno stomaching that?

However, the big roadblock to any trade is first the contract of Trout. And secondly, owner Arte Moreno. Moreno would likely rather sell the Angels than move Trout to the Dodgers, no matter how strong of a prospect package the Halos would get back.

If the Dodgers are willing to take Trout's contract, you do that deal.
