I'd argue being closer to the majors can impact prospect ranking but last week's performance? Hello, SSS. I'd tattoo SSS on my forehead but people think I was a Nazi

If it wasn't clear (it was not), the tweet above is referring to the MLB Pipeline Top 30 list, which in addition to the updated rankings, has updated writeups on all of the prospects as well.

I love the fact that Guti is working with Clase on his defense.

A guy that I'm going to be paying attention to this year is RHP Troy Taylor. Baseball America has him at #25 in the Mariners system. MLB Pipeline has him at #29. We know how quickly these relievers can move sometimes.

Here's his blurb from Baseball America:

25. Troy Taylor
RHP

Ht: 6'0" | Wt: 195 | B-T: R-R

Age: null

BA Grade: 40/High

Track Record: Taylor primarily played shortstop in high school before converting to pitching in college. He started at Long Beach State, transferred to Cypress (Calif.) JC and finished his career as a dominant closer at UC Irvine. The Mariners drafted him in the 20th round out of Cypress in 2021 and failed to sign him, but they selected him again in the 12th round out of Irvine in 2022 and inked him for $125,000. Taylor showed why the Mariners drafted him twice with an eye-opening pro debut in 2023. He struck out 62 batters in 45.1 innings of relief across the Class A levels and posted a 1.74 ERA in the Arizona Fall League.

Scouting Report: Taylor is a 6-foot righthander with a powerful two-pitch mix. His two-seam fastball sits 94-96 mph and touches 98 with hard, late armside run. He locates his two-seamer to both sides of the plate and has the unique ability to elevate it to make it a plus pitch. Taylor complements his fastball with an 85-87 mph power slider with sharp vertical break and late sweep. It’s an above-average offering he primarily uses as a chase pitch. Taylor’s pitches have so much movement they get away from him at times and yield fringy control, but he throws enough strikes to be effective in short bursts.

The Future: Taylor has the stuff to be a mid-leverage reliever with further development. He’ll move to Double-A in 2024.

Scouting Grades Fastball: 60 | Slider: 55 | Control: 45

Baseball America has RVS at #27 in the organization. MLB Pipeline has him unranked.

Here's the blurb on him from Baseball America:

27. Reid VanScoter
LHP

Ht: 6'0" | Wt: 190 | B-T: L-L

Age: null

BA Grade: 40/High

Track Record: VanScoter spent his first two college seasons at Binghamton before transferring to Coastal Carolina. He won Sun Belt Conference pitcher of the year as a redshirt senior and was drafted by the Mariners in the fifth round, signing for $20,000. VanScoter made his pro debut at High-A Everett in 2023 and dominated the level. He led the Northwest League in ERA (3.27) and strikeouts (157) despite pitching his home games in one of the minors’ most hitter-friendly stadiums.

Scouting Report: VanScoter is a crafty lefthander with a low, three-quarters arm slot that presents an uncomfortable look for hitters. His below-average two-seam fastball sits just 89-91 mph, but it’s not a significant part of his arsenal. He primarily throws his sweepy, 82-86 mph slider that is an average pitch he can land in the strike zone or get chase swings with. He backs up his slider with an 11-to-5 curveball in the 75-78 mph range that has more depth than his slider. He also has a fringy, 82-85 mph changeup that is usable against righthanders. VanScoter throws all four of his pitches for strikes with above-average control and keeps the ball on the ground.

The Future: VanScoter’s low slot and quality breaking pitches give him a chance to be a low-leverage reliever who handles lefties in the majors. He’ll move to Double-A Arkansas in 2024.

Scouting Grades Fastball: 40 | Curveball: 50 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 55
