Inconvenient Truth about next month's trade deadline
Re: Inconvenient Truth about next month's trade deadline
Major flaws is a good point. Robert, Rooker, etc, etc. When I am like this guy has some tools but what well he cost. And especially this rumor that Chi's guy is thinking Soto package? Soto was 23 with 3 years of CC and a 161 OPS+ and played in almost every game. Vs. a 26 year old with a 5 year history of not being able to stay on the field and a 124 OPS+ career.
The thing is, we could afford a Soto package but there are no Soto level bats are there.
Re: Inconvenient Truth about next month's trade deadline
The key component is that we could have afforded the Soto package but Jerry had no balls and has shown to make crappy trades when we needed help or sat on his hands and did nothing. He should have started making trades 2 weeks ago. This team will only go as far as the pitching takes them. It is so pitching heavy and I love the 5 we have but frickin support them more consistently.

You know that Boob Nightengale completely pulled that BS out of his ass right? And then about a half dozen other outlets published it citing Boob as their source and all the dopes ate it up like midnight frozen pizza at a stoner slumber party.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 11:49 pmMajor flaws is a good point. Unless they change their offensive (which is offensive!) philosophy, trading for another bat or two won’t make a difference other than make the team weaker as they will use up their prospects for nothing. They will be out of first place by the All Star Game and out of the playoff race by mid-August. They should be sellers, not buyers.

Exactly. I just can't believe that people think they are going to bring in bats that will magically save the season. I think one bat would be sufficient if it is the right one. What they can't do is trade out every guy that is not named Raley, Moore, Rojas, and Cal.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 12:39 amExactly. France had looked like he was catching on until he got hurt and now he is just meh. Polanco was a 115-120 OPS+ guy the previous 3 years but got Safeco'd. Garver, you are simply not going to flip out 4 under performing bats with Quality replacements. NEVER EVER GOING to happen. If you want systemic changes blow Sefeco the f-up and build a ball park that isn't top of the charts by miles in offensively suppressing offense.
Oh, and if Julio is not at least fairly above average this team does not work.

They need a new philosophy. Try adopting Clevelands method of MAKING CONTACT (i.e. putting the ball in play). Stop playing fuckin long ball & start fuckin developing guys who can get the fuck on base & make contact. Yes you need power guys but that doesn't do you a whole hell lotta good if there's nobody on base to bring them in. That's a big ass outfield with lots of room to roam. That'd be heaven for the Edgar's of the world. Quit swinging for the fences & start playing to your ballparks strengths. How can you be proud or support a team that leads the league in strikeouts. Gee I wonder why. Imagine if you had a little more speed in that lineup.

Safeco is near dead last for walks, doubles, triples, and singles. It is a middle of the pack #18 in HR. That is still below average tech. but not this:HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 3:54 amThey need a new philosophy. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderbo ... rk-factors
Worst for highest Strikeouts
Overall offense 92 worst by 4 points
overall hitting worst
OBP Worst
runs worst
walks 4th worst
singles 2nd worst by one point
doubles 2nd worst by one point
triples 4th worst
It's going to be really hard to develop an offense with that home park. These guys have ego's and that park clearly gets in their heads.
Re: Inconvenient Truth about next month's trade deadline
Oh my god. I just looked at Polanco's player card at baseball savant. He has gone full Wong so far in 2024. I mean give him the next few weeks to be who he was before but he only has a 750K buyout for next year if he continues to suck we are not married to him.
Right now my best bet would be to get TB's Isaac Paredes 138 OPS+ for the infield
and maybe you go get Tyler Oneal for the OF 139 OPS+ rental
Rooker 143 OPS+ and the Savant card looks nice
