Tyrice Knight: Boom or Bust

Post by D-train » Mon Jul 08, 2024 9:48 pm

I am going to call Boom. Maybe not this season but starting next season. The speed and the production excite me a hell of a lot more than drafting Brooks in the first round. Still can't believe people we upset we "let him go" How crazy is it that he is a first rounder and Bobby was a 2nd rounder.

I vote Boom. Coachable high-motor guy who is getting rave reviews out of the gate. Did you place your over/under bet?

He has good instincts, but isn't very fast. 40 time was 4.63. Decent athleticism...

..but not in Bobby's league.

When I saw speedy I was thinking somewhere in the 4.4 range but 4.63 on a undersized 230# guy is not impressive to me. I'd be a lot more excited if he was Ray Lewis sized guy with those stats. But, I mean when we drafted the twin from UCF Griffen he was supposed to be a 4.3/40 guy but he did not look like it when he played. Maybe this guy has the instincts to looks fast to the ball, route, etc.

Guessing drafting a guy with one arm was a PC decision vs. JS decision. 4.63 is good not great but all those tackles means he has good instincts and is good football player. Antithesis of Aaron Curry.

Looking at nfl .com's scouting reports for our starting ILBs; Dodson projected as a "bottom of the roster or practice squad" guy and Baker as a "will eventually be average starter" guy.

Those assessments were made pre-draft and combine numbers were probably given too much weight. Obviously Dodson has proven himself to be considerably better than that rating, but like Knight he had a 4.6 40 time.

Well, if the expectation for Knight is that he will be an "average back-up or special teamer" (as nfl .com put it) i would see it as more likely that he will boom than bust.
